However, despite the challenges Willie might face, the reward is always better. He said, “There’s something special about being responsible for moving products that help build communities and keep parts of this world moving. Every pole delivered and log hauled shows another successful day on the job.” Although his Peterbilt is equipped with a sleeper, it sees very limited use as Willie is home just about every night. But it’s still nice to have when a job might call for an overnight stay or a long-distance run. Having just turned 64 years old, Willie shows no signs of losing interest or his appreciation for trucking. His Peterbilt 362 remains a rare sight on today’s highways as a classic cabover still earning its keep every day. It’s a truck that reflects the man that owns it – practical, dependable and built for hard work. Talking about the challenging and sometimes dangerous work he does, Willie said, “You have to know when to stop. Whether in traffic or coming off a steep landing with a load of logs, it is important to know when to stop!” Some might think those are simple words, but it tells a lot about his experience, judgment, and professionalism that only comes after spending a lifetime behind the wheel. And for this log hauler and his unique Peterbilt, that is what it has always been about. n
