10-4 Magazine / May 2026 67 For years, one of the most iconic show trucks on the circuit that won a lot of awards and trophies was owned by Thomas A. Smith of Goldsboro, NC. Leased to Security Mayflower, his 1990 Peterbilt 379 aectionately nicknamed “Big Willy” was equipped with a 140” ICT Sundowner Sleeper with over 300 lights on the entire unit, WTI fenders, and plenty of custom paint and stainless from front to back. Powered by a 460-hp CAT 3406C mated to a 15-speed/over transmission, power was pushed to 3.36 geared rears riding on 24.5 Alcoa aluminum wrapped in tall rubber. Needless to say, Big Willy had no problem boogying down the highway with that kind of running gear. Ordered new in 1990 by Thomas, he owned Big Willy until 2012 when he traded it in for a new Peterbilt 386 riding on a 350” wheelbase.
