10-4 Magazine October 2020

OCTOBER 2020 COVER FEATURE: 5th generation trucker Tyler Gwillim (22) of Carlinville, IL owns and operates this freshly-rebuilt 1984 Peterbilt 359. Not intending to completely renovate the truck after buying it in 2019, one thing led to another (as it often does) and before long everything was being redone. Equipped with a 425 Cat hooked to a 13-speed and 3.36 rears, the Metallic Grey truck with a Metallic Turquoise chassis has a 272” wheelbase, a 36” sleeper, and a custom interior. Leased to his dad’s company, TKNG Transit (formerly known as Gwillim Trucking), this outfit has the oldest continuously-active ICC number in all of Illinois (since 1939). Typically operating within a 100-mile radius of home, the truck recently went into service and is used to haul refrigerated freight for Prairie Farms Dairy, along with grain, corn, and beans in a polished stainless-steel Timpte hopper.
