Truck Show Report: By Eric Hill Labor Day Weekend once again brought the “Field of Dreams” to Iowa, but not for baseball – for trucks! For those that don’t know, the “Field of Dreams” from the movie, starring Kevin Costner, was located in northeast Iowa, but the “Field of Dreams” for trucks on this particular holiday weekend was located in the endless corn and soybean fields at the opposite end of the state in northwest Iowa. The No Coast Large Cars Truck Show, held September 5-6, 2020 at Hancock County Fairgrounds just south of Britt, IA, is an annual event of like-minded trucking folks getting together for some fun (there is no club). The planners, organizers and hosts for this event were JR Schlueger, Nicky Erdahl, the staff of Lifetime Nut Covers, and the fine community of Britt, IA. Arriving at the fairgrounds late Friday afternoon, I had a chance to see the layout of the show and check out the trucks that had arrived early. Many were already there, and the owners/drivers were working hard to prepare them for the show. After checking the trucks out, I was invited to a cookout being held at the Lifetime Nut Covers facility nearby. Before partaking in all the good food that was available, a few of us got to take a fascinating tour of the facility, which included the production, shipping, and storage areas of the business. After the tour, we all over-indulged on some awesome smoked brisket, ribs, sloppy joes, several side dishes, dessert, and an excellent selection of whatever anyone wanted to drink. There were about a dozen sharp rigs parked on the property, being buffed and shined for the show, that turned on their lights when it got dark for a great mini-light show and preview of what was to come. Getting to the fairgrounds early on Saturday morning, I began setting up our booth, along with many other vendors. With plenty of sunshine, temperatures in the mid-80s, and relatively tolerable humidity, registration for the show took place from 10:00 AM until 5:00 PM. Throughout the day, many bobtails and combos arrived at the fairgrounds, and each registered participant received a nice goodie bag. Several food vendors were in attendance to satisfy the hungry appetites of participants and attendees for the weekend. I sampled the fare from several of these vendors, including Johnny Rocket BBQ, Gran D’s Popcorn, and the hot dog stand, and was not disappointed with any of it. I especially liked the pulled pork loaded french fries and pulled pork on mac-n-cheese offered at Johnny Rocket BBQ! 54 10-4 Magazine / October 2020 FIELD OF DREAMS
