Clint’s Creations: By Clint Moore done, even if they aren’t considered “normal” jobs. Which brings me to this month’s truck. Ordered for my friend Bret Schmid from Scio, Oregon, Bret was featured in a previous article (August 2016), and we’ve kept in touch since then. Over the years, he has purchased other trucks since that last article, and this is one of them. Bret and his wife (and best friend) Laila have been together almost 10 years and were married in 2019. Between the two of them they have six kids and two grandkids – with another on the way. Laila owns her own salons, and Bret does his trucking and equipment deal. Bret’s business model has evolved into doing multiple things, some of which is delivering very large machinery to places where there aren’t any highways – or even roads, sometimes. He bought a new 389 Peterbilt from me in 2021 and, like in the past, I drop shipped it to him, then he and a few friends got the truck dolled up and equipped out. Bret ran that truck until someone wanted to buy it, and that’s when he called me and asked about ordering a new 589, with a combination spec in mind, to haul both heavy equipment and logs. It needed to be built super heavy duty to do the work he had in mind, which was exciting for me. The new truck is a model 589 with a 131” day cab, spec’d heavy, with 20k front axle, 52k rears, and a 20k steerable pusher. The truck is powered by a 600-hp Cummins X15 with 2050 torque, an 18-speed main and 2-speed auxiliary transmission, and all the heavy duty stuff to go along with it. Not only is it built big, but it’s fancy, This month’s truck actually is coming as an audible, because sometimes getting all the pictures and the interview done in time to meet the deadline, can be challenging. But a lot of the things I’ve done in my career that have turned out great were done at the very last minute. I want to apologize that the truck pics this month are not glamour shots like what we typically share, but instead are pictures from the real world, out there working, getting dirty like it was intended (and obviously not AI generated)! Coming up on October 22, 2026, I was excited to hear that Al Peterman is being inducted into the Antique Truck Hall of Fame at the ATHS headquarters in Kansas City, Missouri. Someone from Peterbilt Motors will be there to accept it on his behalf. The ATHS reached out to us because we are the local dealer to see if we could bring out a few Peterbilts to park in the lot on the day of the ceremony. I was honored by the opportunity, and this got me thinking about how Peterbilt was founded. Most of you know the story – when Mr. Peterman couldn’t get someone to build the truck he wanted and needed, he took it upon himself to build it, which is what became the start of Peterbilt Motors. This month’s truck was ordered to do what most trucks won’t, just like Al Peterman would have wanted. Over the last 29 years of working with Peterbilt, I’ve really loved that the people that make up the company still take pride and do their absolute best to provide a vehicle to do almost any job. I appreciate their help and the opportunity to order trucks that can get any job 10-4 Magazine / October 2026 47 too, with Platinum interior, Atlas seats, and all the good stuff. Painted black with a lime green frame, after the truck was built, we drop shipped it to our friends at DC Modification in Rockwood, TN for a split windshield conversion, and then they sent it to Whit-Log Trailers in Roseburg, OR where it got dialed in. Bret wanted to give special thanks to John Cornilsen, Mike Mitchell and Brett Whitaker at Whit-Log for all they did. So, this month, I thought it was fitting to share Bret’s truck, built to do a special job, and let people know about the event in Kansas City at ATHS on October 22. If you are near KC with a cool Peterbilt and would like to display your truck during the ceremony, send me a message (there is a limited number of spots but we will try to make room). And, if you or your friends are in the market for a new Peterbilt to do your job, please reach out to me or your Geis Dealer Group representative. We would love to put you in a truck that is built for work – YOUR work – whatever that might be! n BUILT FOR WORK
