City of Beverly Hills Community Services - Spring 2023

A MESSAGE FROM OUR COMMUNITY SERVICES INTERIM DIRECTOR & ASSISTANT DIRECTOR Dear Community Members , Before I get into all the spectacular things that are happening this spring, I would like to introduce myself. My name is Stephanie Harris, and I am the Interim Director of Community Services. I’ve worked in the Community Services Department before as Community Services Manager and other various roles, and I am happy to be back, helping to lead the amazing staff in Recreation and Parks, Library Services, Arts and Culture, Human Services and Administrative Support. I also want to introduce you to Patty Acuna, Assistant Director of Community Services, who is in the photo with me and assists me in overseeing all our divisions. Now, we would like to tell you what’s happening. The City of Beverly Hills Community Services has a fabulous recreational program that has served the community for so many years, and we strive to offer fun and exciting programs, activities, and events that our community members want and need. Please peruse the catalog to see the myriad of classes and programs offered! There is something for everyone from tots to seniors. And as you’re planning the upcoming summer activities for your family, don’t forget that Beverly Hills offers an array of creative and engaging summer camps! You’ll have an opportunity to enroll early for a discount at the Community Services Department Showcase on March 5 at the Farmers’ Market. You must register in person to receive the discount! There will be demonstrations and entertainment; we’re sure you’ll find the showcase fun and informative! You can also shop at our fabulous Farmer’s Market and enjoy some new seasonal fruit and vegetable vendors. Hope to see you there! There is so much happening in the way of events this spring, including the inaugural Festival Beverly Hills , a new global arts and cultural event that will showcase the cultural community through food, art workshops, music, dance, and pop-up activations. It takes place at the Beverly Hills Farmers’ Market on March 12th. And of course, we have the bi-annual Beverly Hills Art Show on May 20 and 21 in Beverly Gardens Park where we will be celebrating 50 years of bringing established and emerging artists to what’s become one of the most favored art fairs in Southern California, attracting thousands of art aficionados and enthusiasts from all over the world. Speaking of celebrations, the first anniversary of our monthly ArtWalk Guided Tours was in February. Join us on designated Sundays for fun and inspiring mornings with your family and friends to learn about Beverly Hills artworks from its robust public art collection, and let by experienced docents. Our award-winning library will be celebrating National Library Week starting on April 23 and jump into summer with summer reading fun! Summer Reading Club begins May 30, 2023. This year’s theme is Find Your Voice! More information on both events is available at www.bhpl.org . And, lastly, I’m excited to share that the Human Services Division received applications from 31 organizations for the 2023-24 Community Assistance Grant Fund, which will be awarded this June. Thank you for your continued enthusiasm and support of the Community Services Department and all we have to offer! Stephanie Harris & Patty Acuna, Interim Director & Assistant Director Community Services Department Spring Greetings! &
