26 | WINTER 2024 ENRICHMENT CERAMICS - INTRO TO HAND-BUILDING Learn the basics of working with clay while creating fun projects in this structured, beginner-friendly class. Hand building is a relaxing, forgiving way to explore pottery without thewheel andexpress yourself creatively. Students will learn the fundamentals of pinching, coiling, slab construction, and glazing. Fee includes all class materials and ring. $25 material fee is payable to instructor at rst meeting. Instructor: Jacqi Lee. No Classes 1/15, 2/19. 6 weeks. CERAMICS - OPEN STUDIO TIME This is a non-instructional time for potters to practice independently and develop their projects while connecting with others in a relaxed, communal setting. Participants must have previous experience with wheel throwing and/or hand building and feel comfortable working in the studio on their own. Staff will be around to ask questions but will not offer lessons. Fee includes a designated shelf, studio glazes, and ring. Clay must be purchased separately. Instructor: Jacqi Lee. 8 weeks. 1. MAKE YOUR OWN PLANT TERRARIUM We will cover containers, growing mediums, plant selection, care and maintenance. All participants will build and take home a small terrarium as well as the knowledge to build a bigger one at home. 2. BACKYARD FRUIT ORCHARD Now is the perfect time of year to get started. For both new and existing fruit-growers, learn how to properly grow, care and maintain your fruit trees. Covers: buying, caring, location, different varieties, containers, pruning, fertilizing, pests, and harvest. GARDENING 3. INTRODUCTION TO PLANT PROPAGATION You’ve grown something you like. How do you reproduce it? How do you share it? We have options- Seed Saving, Propagation, and Cloning. We will teach you best practices to create and save your own heirloom varieties or collect new additions from friends and neighbors. 4. INTRODUCTION TO COMPOSTING AND WORM COMPOSTING Composting involves the decomposition of organic matter through environmental methods that speed up the process. Vermiculture (Worm Composting) uses worms for the same process. Recycle your kitchen scraps and green waste to create the best organic fertilizer and soil amendment at the same time. FRIDAY MORNING GARDENING CLUB Every Friday our volunteer crew meets to help maintain the Greystone Demonstration Garden and the grounds around it including Pollinator Hill. You may put on your garden gloves to join in or simply sit and watch the birds and enjoy the camaraderie of other garden lovers. You must arrive between 8:30am and 9:00am. We usually meet for about two hours. The cost is free however pre- registration is required. Adults
