2 Spring is a wonderful time of the year here in Menifee. With near-perfect weather, blooming flowers, and luscious green landscapes, spring is the perfect time to get outdoors and enjoy all of the wonderful amenities and community events that Menifee has to o er. Spring also means the return of one of Menifee’s most popular and successful events, Foodie Fridays! On the first Friday of every month starting in March and going through November, this signature event attracts visitors from across the region to enjoy delicious cuisines, live entertainment, and craft vendors. Learn more about Foodie Fridays on page 4. On Saturday, April 5 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., the City will host our annual Multicultural Festival at Mt. San Jacinto College to celebrate all of the wonderful cultures that define our community. This is a great opportunity to enjoy delicious food, music, and see performances from across the globe! For more information, visit page 18. Another popular event is our Senior Expo and Wellness Fair which will be held on Saturday, May 3 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Sun City Civic Association. COST SAVINGS If you decide to sell a home or building that has had modifications without a permit, you may be required to demolish any illegal construction projects, as well as pay more money out of pocket to resolve the issues. Obtaining a permit and inspections will ensure that a contractor uses safe and standard methods. 12 WINTER 2024 MEET OFFICER HUNTER O¢cer Hunter serves as the Homeless Liaison O¢cer for the Menifee Police Department and is an essential member of the Problem-Oriented Policing (POP) Team. Alongside partners from the Riverside University Health System (RUHS), O¢cer Hunter is dedicated to supporting homeless individuals in our community by providing access to a wide variety of resources. These resources include outreach services, addiction recovery programs, housing assistance, mental health support, and more. In addition, the RUHS team is specifically trained to assist homeless individuals facing behavioral health challenges while also o ering vital housing support services, ensuring comprehensive care and pathways to stability. The Menifee Police Department also encourages our residents to practice Responsible Compassion when supporting our homeless neighbors. We recommend partnering with local organizations to donate items, ensuring that contributions are directed where they can have the greatest impact. 16 WINTER 2024 ROAD IMPROVEMENTS IN CONSTRUCTION This project will improve the left turn lane for westbound tra’c on McCall Boulevard at Sun City Boulevard increasing capacity and reduce congestion. The work will include clearing and preparing the ground for the new road to install a four-inch layer of compacted ground and a one-and-a-half-inch overlay on the existing road surface to create a smooth driving area. A new four-inch concrete curb will also be built to shape the extended turn lane and improve tra’c flow. Additionally, existing signs will be relocated, and tra’c-rated pull boxes and new pavement markings will be installed to boost safety on the road. The project is expected to be completed this spring. Construction on the Central Park Amphitheater is taking shape with the recent completion of the east and west pillars, the back concrete storage walls, stage planters, and stairs and is expected to open this summer. Additionally, construction of the Paloma Wash Pedestrian Bridge, which will connect Central Park to shopping centers east of the City, and the Civic Center Parking Lot Project are set to begin this spring. This project involved resurfacing the existing pavement from north of Aldergate Drive to McCall Boulevard. It included the removal and replacement of striping throughout the entire project area, the addition of dedicated bike lanes where the existing pavement width allows, and the installation of new signage. SCHOOL IMPROVEMENTS MENIFEE MATTERS 17 Menifee's Innovation District is part of the City’s initiative to promote purposeful planning. Located south of Scott Road, east of Howard Road, west of I-215, and north of Keller Road, the goal of the District is to enhance Menifee's economic development opportunities and create a framework that attracts a diverse range of high-quality jobs, amenities, and a distinctive community identity. This initiative aims to draw in new businesses and investments while providing residents with more living and entertainment options, ultimately diversifying Menifee's economic base for the benefit of both the community and the city. Menifee Innovation District Specific Plan is in the early stages, with stakeholders meeting regularly to address both opportunities and challenges. Community input is welcomed to help shape the plan as it develops. The improvements included widening 200 linear feet of the roadway, installing a crosswalk with Rectangular Rapid Flashing Beacons (RRFB) just south of the high school’s northern entrance, extending the sidewalk, and adding an Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) compliant ramp. Overall, this project has created a safe crossing area for the high volume of pedestrian tra’c traveling to and from Paloma Valley High School. BRADLEY ROAD WIDENING NEAR PALOMA VALLEY HIGH SCHOOL In support of the City’s Strategic Plan objective of enhancing safety infrastructure to improve the sense of security and well-being for residents, road improvements have been completed near Bell Mountain Middle School. The project, located along La Piedra Road between Antelope Road and Menifee Road, involved several improvements including repaving, restriping, bike lane enhancements, and the construction of a protected raised median. Additional features included the installation of a dual-arm streetlight, ADA compliant pedestrian ramps, RRFBs, and six high visibility crosswalks within the project area. Overall, approximately 244,481 square feet of roadway was improved along La Piedra Road, covering a total length of 0.77 miles.
