Dr. Carreón Foundation scholarship awards for 2023 achieved a record-breaking level, awarding 90 students with approximately $270,000. Since 1991, the Foundation has awarded more than $2 million in scholarships to more than 900 students. The late Dr. Reynaldo J. Carreón established the Foundation prior to his death in 1991, to enable Americans of Mexican ancestry to become the best they can through education. In 2023 the Foundation expanded the mission to include other minority ethnicities. In addition, the program has expanded to include all of the Eastern Inland Empire, in addition to the Coachella Valley. The Board has dedicated its efforts and resources to carry out Dr. Carreón’s vision, which was to help his people “be the greatest Americans possible,”while serving underprivileged communities in the area. Dr. Carreón’s profound love for the Valley and unwavering commitment to enhancing the lives of Mexican-American families have left an indelible impact on countless individuals. His exceptional contributions have garnered widespread recognition from various cities and organizations, immortalizing his legacy through tributes such as Dr. Carreón Boulevard, Dr. Carreón Park, and the Dr. Reynaldo J. Carreón Jr. Academy. For the 2024 scholarship program, students can submit their application beginning in December 2023 through March 2024.
