A memorable story during our team’s Street Vet Work is the story of Justin and his cat “Um.” Justin found “Um” when he was just a kitten. Today they share an unbreakable bond, “keeping each other warm at night,” as Justin told our team. Justin had been living out of a tent in Los Angeles and working towards getting a job when one day he heard meowing coming out of a nearby dumpster. When he looked inside, he discovered there was a tiny kitten! You can read how the Project Street Vet team (thanks to our supporters) saved “Um” after an emergency and many other stories on our Street Vet Stories Page. FREE PET CLINICS In addition to Street Vet Work, Project Street Vet partners with organizations serving people experiencing homelessness to host free pet clinics at their sites. During clinics, volunteer veterinary teams provide vaccines, supplies, and minor care, while establishing relationships with pet parents for follow-ups. We are grateful to have hosted clinics in partnership with amazing groups such as Hope of the Valley Tiny Homes, San Diego Alpha Project, and Loaves & Fishes, and are always looking for new opportunities to service more pets and their people. If you know of any groups that may be interested in a free pet clinic at their site and/or if you are interested in donating pet supplies to an upcoming clinic, please email danae@projectstreetvet.org . The Regional Access Project, headquartered in Palm Desert, has been selected by Riverside County to administer the $1.3M American Rescue Plan’s Nonprofit Assistance Fund. The funds go toward providing Technical Assistance throughout the county “for purposes of strengthening, expanding, and supporting the local nonprofit sector.” These one- year funds expand RAP’s ability to serve nonprofits challenged with limited funding which could otherwise not afford to invest in their own organizations. RAP will utilize our NonProfit Organization (NPO) Centric staff and current consultants to collaborate with interested nonprofits to provide Technical Assistance (TA) for the grant period. TA will address operational, fiscal, and programmatic capacities for 450 Riverside County nonprofits. The funding is a springboard to increase our service area and build more financially sustainable nonprofits as well as encouraging collaboration and increased awareness of community resources, according to RAP CEO Leticia De Lara. “By investing in nonprofits without the financial means to access educational resources on their own,” said De Lara “our services are leveling the field for those organizations without the financial means to invest in developing their staff to achieve full potential. “In addition, RAP offers workshops, conferences, free meeting rooms, affordable office space, and more, because it is our mission to better serve the needs of our nonprofit community so they are better able to serve their clients.” Riverside County Selects Regional Access Project to Allocate $1.3 Million in Federal Funds n PALM SPRINGS ANIMAL SHELTER Continued from page 50 Palm Springs Animal Shelter’s recent success and the promising events on the horizon highlight the significance of community involvement in creating a world where every animal can thrive.
