She continued, “We are one step closer to achieving our goal of having a federally recognized and accredited Tribal College in California that provides culturally responsive curricula.” Despite all accomplishments, CINC has had to operate with limited financial support. CINC has received approximately $15 million to date, including a one-time allocation of $5 million from the State. Still, CINC celebrated 18 graduates in the 2024 Commencement ceremony with 12 (66%) accepted to a four-year institution of their choice, and three applications are currently pending notification. As such, a Rutgers University study reported Native American students who transfer to a four-year university from a Tribal college are more likely to earn a degree. “California Indian Nations College is not just a school to me, it is a lifeline, and I am grateful to have been given the opportunity as a student. I am learning not only curriculum, but also how to be the very best version of myself and a positive member of my community as well as my family.
