Moffat, who was vice president for 2019, was nominated for the position of president and support- ed by board members Andrea Ya- masaki and Kris Erickson. The board majority – Rick Ledesma, Alexia-Deligianni Brydges, John Ortega and Brenda Lebsack -- opted for Ortega instead. The decision surprised many constituents who regularly at- tend board meetings. Ortega was president in 2015, and his overall attendance record is spotty. Since 2015, Ortega has missed as many meetings as all of the other board members combined. Kris Erickson recommended that the board consider nam- ing officers on a rotating basis, instead of electing them, in the future. Her suggestion was met with disinterest. Kathy Moffat made her annual plea to place additional board meetings on the calendar because the agendas are always full, and the district would benefit from more than one meeting a month. Ortega noted that the calendar does have several holding dates throughout the year, wherein meetings could be scheduled, as needed. Moffat may be on to some- thing. The board’s Dec. 19 meet- ing lasted until 1:30 a.m. Jingle bell rocks in Villa Park The Grand Marshals for the Villa Park Dry Land Boat Parade, Dec. 15, were residents Greg and Andie Mills. Greg is a Serrano Water Board member, a Rotarian, and a former VP mayor and city council- man. Andie is active in VP Women’s League, the Community Services Foundation, and the Assistance League, (she is also part of the Foot- hills Sentry team.) The county’s Gang Reduction and Intervention Program (GRIP) is represented by (clockwise) District Attorney Todd Spitzer, Jamie Spitzer, GRIP Supervisor Nicole Nicholson, Joseline Hernandez and Elizabeth Villaverde. The “float” design was one of 130 submitted by GRIP participants, and selected for the parade by the district at- torney’s office and Ford, a GRIP sponsor.
