Foothills Sentry January 2020 Page 3 Under an agreement with Chap- man University, qualified San- tiago Canyon College (SCC) stu- dents pursuing a teaching degree will be guaranteed admission into the Attallah College of Educa- tional Studies. Chapman has also committed to offer full-tuition scholarships to five SCC students. The partnership will help ad- dress the state’s emerging teacher shortage and diversify the local teaching profession. The agree- ment guarantees enrollment into Chapman University Attallah College’s Integrated Educational Studies (IES) undergraduate pro- gram for transfer students who want to work as elementary or special education teachers. The IES program develops future educators through a culturally re- sponsive curriculum, critical and creative inquiry, and community collaborations. Chapman and SCC partnership provides pathway for aspiring teachers with students interested in non- profit work, policy change, after- school programs and businesses. The streamlined transfer pro- cess will give access to an afford- able four-year degree program to local community college stu- dents. The Orange North Rotary was one of five clubs earning a Com- munity Partnership Recognition award from the Orange Unified School District. The awards, pre- sented Dec. 19, were the district’s inaugural recognition of commu- nity partners. The district intends to honor a contributing organiza- tion once every quarter. The Rotary Clubs were nomi- nated by staff, based on their contributions to district initia- tives. Orange North Rotary was recognized for its Youth Leader- ship Academy scholarships, its Merv Young scholarship, funding of literacy programs, murals and 21st-century learning, and creat- ing opportunities for students to build community relationships. The Rotary Club of Orange, Rotary Club of Orange Plaza, Ro- tary Club of Villa Park and Ana- heim Hills Rotary Club were also honored.
