Santiago soccer shutout in So Cal Regional Santiago Canyon women's soccer (19-2-2 overall, 12-0-2 conference) captured the Orange Empire Conference (OEC) title and shut out Ventura, 3-0, and Santa Barbara, 1-0, before fac- ing its nemesis from the south, Saddleback, for the third time this season. Their first meeting resulted in a tie; Santiago won the second; and the third resulted in a 2-0 shut out, eliminating SCC. The win propelled Saddleback into the final four and winner of its first CCCAA state title in women’s soccer. High school basketball leagues name players of the year Owen Smith, a senior from El Modena High School, was named Player of the Year for the North Hills League. Christian Lundsberg, a senior from Canyon High, was named Offensive Player of the Year. ElMo senior Mayson Hitchens was named Defensive Player of the Year. Blake Armstrong from El Modena was named a Special Teams Player of the Year. All League Teams Named to First Team All- League from El Modena were El- ishah Jackett (12), Xzavior Guess (10), Ryan Holzgang (11), Sam Astor (12), Anthony Lopez (12) and Michael Anaya (12). From Canyon High, All- League First Team includes Fox Haugen (12), Kayvon Monfared (12), Troy Mills (12), Matthew Carrillo (11) and Connor Leonard (12). Second Team All-League from El Modena were Shane Whitehill (10), Alex Luna (12), Dylan Gon- zalez (11), Zander Chaffin (12) and Davian Ceballos (12). From Canyon, Second Team All-League includes Colin Chu (12), Pasha Golestaneh (12), Thomas Cabral (12) and Kyle Krause (12). Crestview League In the Crestview League, Cart- er Christie (11) from Villa Park High shared Offensive Player of the Year. Lineman of the Year was Zac Alefosio (12),also from Villa Park. First Team All-League from Villa Park were Lucus Simone (11), Luke Terrones (12), Nate Lewis (10), Carson Ridge (12) and Spencer Jarrell (11). From Foothill High, First Team All-League includes Ethan Char- pentier (12), Tyler Holcomb (12), Aaron Mitchell (11) and Drew Nagler (12). Second Team All-League from Villa Park included Canyon Di- etrich (12), Nico Hutchison (12), Henry Wonderlick (10), and JJ Johnson (11). Second Team All- League from Foothill were Jairo Rios (12), Jack Zerkel (11) and Tyler Hawkins (11). El Modena High bested Orange High in the 4th Annual Orange Bowl, held Dec. 8 at the El Mo gym. The final score was 66-51, making it back- to-back wins for the Vanguards and a 3-1 record. Lauren Manaya, a fifth grader from McPherson Magnet School, gave a memorable rendition of the national anthem prior to the faceoff. The El Modena cheerleaders were on hand throughout the event, cheering their team to victory. Nikki Marina was deemed Or- ange Empire Conference MVP. Named to the All-OEC First Team were Kylee Medlin, Shelby Kain, Alyssa Rubio and Savanna Prado. SCC Hawks Paige Win- ters, Cassie Lewis, Ally Gorsha and Camryn Toole were named to the All-OEC Second Team. The California State Commu- nity College Coaches Association announced last week that three Santiago Canyon Women Soccer players were placed on the South All-Region Team and the CCC- SCA 2022 All State team. Named to the South All-Region team and the CCCSCA 2022 All- State team were three talented sophomores Kylee Medlin, a de- fender from Canyon High School, Alyssa Rubio, midfielder, and All-American Nikki Marino, a forward. Mens Soccer In mens soccer, SCC sopho- more forward Bryce Allan was named to the All-OEC First Team.
