The United Soccer Coaches Association named SCC sophomore Nik- ki Marino as All-American. Marino, from Huntington Beach, led the Hawks in scoring, with 17 goals and 6 assists for the season. Shelby Kain (2) from Santiago Canyon College takes an inbound kick from the corner. Marino named All-American All-League water polo players chosen Riley Clansen from Foothill High and Tommy Wilkinson from Villa Park were honored as Most Valuable Players in their respec- tive leagues, Crestview and North Hills. In the Crestview League, Foot- hill Knights William Griswold (12), Bronson Birdsall (11) and Corbin Stanley (11) were named to the First Team All-League. Named to the Second Team were Alon Elbaz (12) and James Yan (12). Griswold, Birdsall, Stanley and Clansen were selected to the Division 1 All-CIF. First Team North Hills selec- tions from Villa Park included Hayden Beasley (12), Garett Gamez (11) and Ian Jones (11); from Canyon High, First Team included Drew Herbel (11) and Luke Kornely (11); and, from El Modena High, Jonathan Alvarez (12). Named to the Second Team were Cody Ho (12) and Nathan Grove (11) from Villa Park; Aid- en Demkiw (11) and Jacob Wins- burg (10) from Canyon; Daniel Morones (11) from El Modena. Herbel from Canyon was named to the Division 4 All-CIF team. Elks champion youth sports By Bill Neessen The Orange Elks have many programs that serve the young people in the community. Two of the favorites are the Soccer Shoot Elroy (AKA Terri Schatz), Hector Villegas (Bri’s dad) and athlete Bri Villegas, a Hoop Shoot contestant. Orange resident Chuck Mosier has been playing golf his whole life, but never shot a hole in one. Until Nov. 4. And again, Dec. 2. Yes, at 80-years-young, Mosier scored two holes in one within weeks of each other. His accom- plishments took place at Birch Hills Golf Course, where he plays two to three times a week with friends. His first single shot was on hole 14 at 107 yards. The sec- ond was on hole 12 at 70 yards. and the Hoop Shoot, organized by Chair Steve Baez, and assisted by 33 volunteers. The Elks Soccer Shoot is for boys and girls in U-8, U-10, U-12 and U-14 divisions, with different goals and ball sizes to test their skills. A total of 29 athletes par- ticipated. The Hoop Shoot is a free throw contest where each participant is scored on how many baskets they make out of 25 shots. The contest is for boys and girls ages 8-9, 10- 11 and 12-13. There were 24 par- ticipants. The first, second and third place winners advanced to the Orange Coast District competition. Each participant left with a gift, either a World Cup replica soc- cer ball, Hoop Shoot basketball, a gift card to a local business or a World Cup Soccer lanyard. The winners of the events will be celebrated and receive trophies at the Elks Youth Appreciation Night in May.
