Santiago Canyon Road. The meeting features the Board of Directors election, the state of OPA and Colt Trail, and an up- date on issues effecting the pres- ervation and protection of Orange Park Acres. Doors open at 8 a.m. for cof- fee and donuts; the meeting com- mences at 9 a.m., with the elec- tion at 10 a.m. Each year, the terms of three directors expire. To be eligible to run, a candidate must be a prop- erty owner, a member of the As- sociation for one year and want to participate in local affairs. The Orange Park Associa- tion maintains a 25-mile multi- use trail system funded through membership dues and donations to OPA. The name of the Irvine Ranch Outdoor Education Center, adja- cent to Irvine Park, was renamed the Ed Laird Scout Camp in a ceremony, Nov. 20, to honor the dedication and commitment to the organization by the lifelong Boy Scout. Ed Laird and wife Patty are standing in front of the facili- ty’s new signage. Laird has served as a Cubmaster, Scoutmaster and executive board member for more than 50 years, and was council board chairman for three years. In that role, he led efforts to re- new the council’s camping fa- cilities, and in the 24 years since stepping down from that position, has continued to help recruit strong leadership. Laird is CEO of Laird Coatings Company, and has arranged for his estate to sup- port the OC Boy Scout Council. CPOC marks its first year The Conservative Patriots of OC kicks off 2023 with its Thurs- day, Jan. 19 meeting, marking the one-year anniversary of the group’s formation. Steve Baric, past vice chairman of the California Republican Par- ty and chairman of the Republi- can Lawyers’ Association will be the guest speaker. Member Susan Stivers will report on the Election Integrity Committee activity. The meeting will be at the San- ta Ana Elks Lodge, 1751 Lyon Street. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. A buffet dinner is $30. Woman’s Club donations add up The Woman’s Club of Orange (WCO) contributed over $40,000 to nonprofits in Orange and other local organizations in 2022. The club’s mission statement de- scribes it as an organization of women dedicated to the promo- tion of friendship and service – in the community and the world. This past year WCO provided funding to the Friendly Cen- ter, Casa Teresa, scholarships to OUSD students, OC Family Justice Center, Patriots & Paws, Orange Senior Center, Meals on Wheels, Bracken’s Kitchen, Or- ange Public Library Foundation, Adopt-A-Senior, Threads of Love and the Community Foundation of Orange.
