Sande passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by her family. Sande was born July 1, 1937, to Robert and Meredith Kop- per of South Bend, Indiana. She lived in Fort Wayne, Indiana, and graduated from South Side High School. After graduation, she at- tended the University of Michi- gan, was an active member of Alpha Delta Pi sorority, and com- pleted her nursing degree before moving to California. On December 6, 1964, she married her true love, the Hon- orable Thomas Neal Thrasher (Ret), in San Francisco. The two met at a costume party, and the rest is history. After the wedding, they moved to Southern Califor- nia to finally reside in Villa Park. When asked what they should do with their backyard, consisting of horse corrals and tumbleweeds in 1973, Sande wished it to be trans- formed into a “park.” Through the years, they turned their home into the beautiful residence Sande had envisioned. She was active in her children’s lives. Many knew her as the go-to baker for all her children’s class parties. She thrived on being a present and loving mom to her children. Sande positively influ- enced all her kids, encouraging them to find their way in life. In doing so, she graciously refused the limelight or credit. Sande enjoyed cooking, sew- ing, traveling and gardening. She applied her expertise in garden- ing to life in general, knowing that what you plant and nurture in the near term, you will harvest down the road, whether it was the bountiful garden in the backyard or the meaningful connections. Everyone she came in touch with took note of her kindness in the community. Sande is survived by her hus- band of 57 years, Tom Thrasher; one son Thomas Thrasher Jr. (wife Allyson Pratt Thrasher); two daughters, Kathleen Thrasher Enge (husband Ron Enge), and Susannah Thrasher Shortall (hus- band Dan Shortall); grandchil- dren Julianna Thrasher, Mikayla Thrasher, Zachary Thrasher, Lauren Enge, Clark Enge, Coco Enge, Mason Shortall, Maddox Shortall, Meredith Shortall, and niece Tina Louise Fields Me- dalen. Her parents Robert and Meredith Kopper, and sister Joc- elyn Ann Kopper Field preceded her death. The family requests memorial donations be directed toward the Lewy Body Dementia Associa- tion (lbda.org) . Gary Toshimi Shigenaga 1962-2022 Gary Toshimi Shigenaga passed away on Jan. 11, peaceful- ly and surrounded by his family. He was born on Nov. 3, 1962 in Los Angeles, California to Ruth and Winston Shigenaga. Gary was an Electrical Design Engineer in Orange County for 35-plus years. He received his B.S. in electrical engineering and computer science from Cal Poly Pomona in 1985. His last em- ployer was Q.S.C., where he was a senior design engineer design- ing audio products. Gary graduated from Canyon High School in 1980. While at Canyon he was a member of the marching band drumline. He was chosen to be in the Santa Ana Winds Marching Band and was a member of its drumline, too. Gary went to Golden West College in Huntington Beach to study sound engineering. It was at Golden West where he met his wife Nancy Fether. This year, July 11, would have been their 35th wedding anniversary. Their marriage was one comprised of love and laughter. Nancy and Gary lived in Orange for over 30 years and hoped for many more. They have two daughters. Sadly, Gary is predeceased by their youngest daughter Erin, 1994-2009. Their eldest daughter Alexandra is their pride and joy. Gary was elated that he was able to walk his beautiful baby girl down the aisle to marry a won- derful man, Keith Imler, on Oct. 23, 2021. Diane Aust 1942-2021 Diane Aust left this life on Nov. 19, 2021. She lived more than 60 years of her life in Tustin. In ad- dition to being a nearly lifelong resident of Tustin, she spent her entire career as an educator and administrator in the Tustin Uni- fied School District. Once she retired in 2004, she continued to devote her time and energy to serving the community in various volunteer capacities. As an employee of the Tus- tin Unified School District, she taught at Loma Vista Elementary and Hewes Middle schools, later becoming an assistant principal at Hewes in the 1997-98 school year where she remained until her retirement. She was awarded Dis- trict Teacher of the Year in 1992. For 22 years, Diane and her husband Gerry took more than 2,500 Hewes Middle School stu- dents to Washington, D.C. and other historical sites. She was a member of the California Asso- ciation of Directors of Activities, and was inducted into its Hall of Fame in 2009. Diane was a member of the board of directors for the Tustin Area Council for Fine Arts for almost 20 years, assisting with such activities as Broadway in the Park. She was an active member of the local chapter of the Delta Kappa Gamma Society for Out- standing Women Educators. Diane was a loyal supporter of the Tustin Public Schools Foun- dation. She was a member of the Dino Dash committee from the beginning 30 years ago, and vol- unteered to help with every event and program of the foundation. Family. In 2018, the Tustin School Management Association award- ed Diane and Gerry their Com- munity Service Award, recogniz- ing their decades of service to the Tustin Unified community.
