Eidson 1955-2025 Kathy Eidson, Foothills Sentry office manager, distribution coordinator, web master and editor's confidant died Jan. 21. She was an instrumental member of the Sentry staff since 2013. When advertisers, readers and vendors called the office, they were always greeted with, “Foothills Sentry, this is Kathy.” She knew everyone’s first name. She kept meticulous books, ensured that the office was always well stocked with needed supplies, kept the rolls of subscribers up to date, and hand delivered papers to community centers. She was the soul behind logistics and operations. When the Sentry was boosting its online presence several years ago, Kathy taught herself how to maneuver through the website software and learned how to post the latest issues, articles and photos and generally keep it up to date. Kathy also kept the skate club at Holiday Skate Center in Orange humming. She started volunteering at the center when her granddaughter Courtney was skating. She stayed on, long after Courtney retired from the rink. Kathy continued keeping the club’s books, coordinating its participation in competitions in the U.S. and abroad. She was also an artful seamstress and enjoyed making outfits for the skaters. Kathy, born in Kansas on Oct. 18, 1955, was one of eight children She married young (that’s what you do in Kansas, she liked to say) and had a daughter Kimberly. She and Kimberly relocated to the City of Orange in the late 1980s, where she began a 30-plusyear courtship with Ken McElroy. They married last year during a whirlwind trip to Las Vegas. Kathy’s focus was always on other people and doing things for them, from the Sentry to the skate club to her neighborhood. She often made too much food for dinner so she could share the leftovers with friends and neighbors. She was always on call to take friends to doctor’s appointments or just visit. She enjoyed her book club, meeting friends at Benjies and traveling when she could. She is survived by her husband Ken, daughter Kimberly, granddaughter Courtney and siblings scattered across the country. She will be sorely missed by all who knew and loved her. Kathy did not want a funeral or memorial service in the event of her passing. “If people want to see me, they can do it when I’m alive,” she said. Good advice.
