These academically talented high school seniors will continue in the competition for some 7,500 National Merit Scholarships worth more than $31 million. Over 1.5 million juniors in more than 22,000 high schools entered the 2020 National Merit Scholarship Program. The nationwide pool of semifinalists, representing less than one percent of U.S. high school seniors, includes the highest scoring entrants in each state. National Merit Scholarship winners will be announced in four nationwide news releases beginning in April and concluding in July. SCC and OUSD host community science night Santiago Canyon College and Orange Unified School District will, for the 15th consecutive year, jointly host Community Science Night for school-aged children, Fri., March 13, from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. Families will learn and have fun, as they explore and conduct hands- on inquiry-based science experi- ments, and see science education come alive. Guests can also observe OUSD’s VEX Robotics Semifinals, where robotics teams from local schools will compete, and the Sci- ence Fair, which highlights student- designed innovations and career pathways, along with food trucks and music. Designed for children aged pre- school to eighth grade, the event is made possible by volunteers from Orange Unified and SCC. It will be held at Santiago Canyon College, 8045 E. Chapman Ave. and is free to the public.
