Jacob Augustine, a Boy Scout in Troop 850, was selling pop- corn in front of the Villa Park Ralph’s Market, when a passer- by asked if he’d be interested in some old Scout stuff. Augustine said “sure,” and Pe- ter Chiarle promised him he’d be right back. A while later Chi- arle returned with a bag full of memorabilia from the 1950 Boy Scout Jamboree in Valley Forge, Pennsylvania. The trove included newspaper clippings, a scarf, a badge and post cards written home by the Los Angeles-based Scout Bob Just. The Scout was Chiarle’s broth- er-in-law. “I had this old stuff for years and wanted to give it to the right person,” he says. “I think I did.” Troop 850 highlighted the his- toric material during a recruit- ing event, and plan to donate the items to the Orange County Boy Scout council.
