Sports wrap-up Golf The Foothill High School boys golf team captured the Franklin Cup Golf Tournament, going up against Beckman High School’s boys team. It was the 3rd Annual Franklin Cup Golf Tournament, held Feb. 15 at the Tustin Ranch Golf Club. Micah Madden won medalist, with a low round of 36. Two freshmen, Jack Riley and Ethan Wong, helped in the big win over Beckman. Soccer The Villa Park High Division 1 boys soccer team stunned Edison, winning in overtime, 3-2, in first round play. Villa Park went on to beat Santa Ana Valley, 2-1, and advanced to face JSerra, where they were eliminated, 1-0. Foothill High's Micah Madden holds the Franklin Cup trophy for shooting a low score of 36 on the Tustin Ranch Golf Club course. The Villa Park girls soccer team, 19-3, is riding a wave of playoff success in Division 1. Villa Park won over ML King in the first round, 3-0; a 1-0 win over Claremont advanced the team into the quarterfinals against Newport Harbor High. Villa Park got two first-half goals from Rylee Lewis and Ry- lie Whittaker. Jessica Ramirez scored the winning goal with 6:39 remaining in the second half. A loss against Santiago High of Corona took them out of the finals. Basketball Foothills boys basketball team (26-2) entered the semifinals against Long Beach Poly, losing 45-50.
