Villa Park scored first by Casey Gregory with an assist by Ethan Mather in the first pe- riod. In Division 2, named All-CIF were Caitlyn McNabb (12) from Canyon High School and Marin Lee (12) from Foothill High. In Division 3, three Villa Park athletes were named: Nicole Gra- nados (12), Cali Niles (12) and Isabella Carrazco (12). Brandon Benjamin (10) from Canyon High and Drew Ro- driquez (12) from ElMo High were named MVP in their respec- tive leagues. In the Crestview First Team were Connor Leonard (12) and Tyler Howard (12) from Canyon High; from Foothill High, Carlo Billings (12) and Isaiah Bernard (11); and from Villa Park, Mi- chael Archer (12). Named to the Second Team were Pasha Golestaneh (12) and Johnathan Carey (12) from Can- yon; Travis Paleo (10) from Foot- hill; and Jack Sharar (12) from Villa Park. First Team North Hills includes Brady Lemnitzer (11) and Nick Weed (12) from ElMo High. Jaden Esparza (12) and Elishah Jackett (12) also from ElMo were named to the Second Team. In girls basketball, Kaitlyn Sawyer (12) and Bailey Roczey (9) from Villa Park High and Mara McCarville (12) from El Modena were named to the First Team North Hills All-League. Named to the Second Team were Elle Buss (12) and Carina Furu- moto (12) from Canyon High; and Kaitlyn Ith (11) from Villa Park High. The Orange County Athletic Directors Association (OCADA) celebrated the annual Women in Sports Conference on Feb. 27, held at the East Side Church in Anaheim. The event celebrates the history of Title IX and encour- ages young female athletes to be inspired to dream and achieve by hearing from some of the biggest names in women’s sports. Alicia Seevers, Orange High School athletic director and presi- dent of the OCADA, opened the conference and presented Jessica Hardy Meichtry. Meichtry was a two-time National High School Swimmer of the Year. At UC Berkeley she won four NCAA titles before swimming for the U.S. National Team in 2013- 2015. Meichtry won over 28 in- ternational medals, and gold and bronze medals in the 2012 Lon- don Olympic Games. Also on stage was Tia Meza, former multisport athletic direc- tor from Mater Dei, currently working in professional sports. In high school, Meza was a Ga- torade National Softball Player of the Year. Meza pitched for the University of Washington and was a two-time All-American pitcher and played in the Wom- en’s College World Series. Guest speaker Sonia Gomez Baker grew up in Orange and at- tended Mater Dei High School (1998). Baker played soccer and was the varsity captain. Off-sea- son, Baker played soccer for the Canyon Hills Soccer Association. Baker currently works for ESPN and oversees the soccer and base- ball portfolios for all platforms in the United States. Karina Tovar relayed what it is like to be a Division 1 football official for 12 years. Tovar also works CIF championship games. She was part of the first all-fe- male team that officiated a NCAA game, at the Hula Bowl. Sheryl Anderson-Glass, a for- mer Orange High School athlete who played softball and volley- ball in her prep years, is now the principal of Orange High School. Anderson-Glass was inducted into the Santa Ana College Hall of Fame for her softball records. She received a softball scholar- ship at Oklahoma State Univer- sity and coached at OSU for two years. Her 20-year path in education has seen positions as athletic di- rector, activities director, assis- tant principal and now principal. Staciana Stitts Winfield, the head instructor at St. Margaret’s Episcopal School, teaches swim- ming, health and wellness, and physiology. She was a gold medal winner in the 1999 Pan American Games and the 2000 Summer Olympics, holding records in the 50-m breaststroke and 4x50-m re- lay. Winfield holds degrees from Concordia in coaching and ath- letic administration. Winfield has been teaching and coaching for over 20 years, inspiring women athletes. Villa Park High School was represented by a group of women athletes at the Women in Sports Conference. before giving up the tying goal with 1:18 remaining in regulation. Corona scored the winning goal 6:18 into the sudden death overtime period to capture the 2023 Commissioner’s Cup Cham- pionship. Logan Baum from OLu was named to the Division 1 All-ADHSHL team; Aiden Hannegan, also from OLu was named to the Division 2 All- ADHSHL team.
