The April 1 event, held on the campus, featured silent and live auctions, dinner and performanc- es by students from the school’s music and dance departments. Fundraising from the evening surpassed the $1 million mark and will support OLu’s endow- ment, annual fund and facilities. The 500 people in attendance surpassed expectations, and in- cluded Supervisor Don Wagner; a representative for 40th District Congresswoman Young Kim; Or- ange Mayor Dan Slater; Orange Councilmembers Kathy Tavou- The Woman’s Club of Orange has elected its governing board for the 2023/24 club year. "The Gala was a highlight of the 50th Anniversary celebra- tion,” said Orange Lutheran Chief Executive Officer Mary Scott. “It was a wonderful evening which showcased our talented students and strong community partner- ship.” The Alumni Association host- ed the first Gala in 2003 to raise funds for tuition assistance. Ev- ery year since then, except for the COVID interruption, pro- ceeds from the Gala have gone to the Annual Fund and the Lancer Legacy Endowment Fund, which are then assigned to students and their families. Gunn Marie Hansen, former Orange Unified School District Superintendent, was selected from a pool of 30 candidates to lead the Westminster School Dis- trict by a unanimous board vote, March 23. Hansen was fired without cause by the OUSD board, Jan. 5, in a 4-3 vote. That board majority has never given a reason for her dismissal and is in the process of finding her replacement. The Westminster School Dis- trict lauds Dr. Hansen as "widely considered one of the best super- intendents in California. Most notably, in 2021 she was awarded the Orange County School Board Association Maureen DeMarco Award for Exemplary Super- intendents and in 2022 the Or- Former OUSD superintendent heads Westminster Schools ange County 4th District Parent Teacher Association Outstanding Superintendent Award. She has devoted 32 years of public-school service to students, staff and com- munity focusing on the core value of supporting educational excel- lence." In a statement, WSD Board President David Johnson said, “Now we will also boast one of the best superintendents in the en- tire state, and she is in alignment with our goals for excellence. We are so fortunate to have you take the lead at WSD.” OUSD paid Hansen some $460,000 in severance, and con- tinues to pay the salary of As- sistant Superintendent Cathleen Corella, on administrative leave since Jan. 5.
