FREE SHOWS Assisteens of Orange celebrate Medallion The 56th annual Assisteens Medallion ceremony for the Class of 2023 was held at the Anaheim Marriott on April 23. Graduat- ing seniors gathered with family and friends to be recognized for their commitment and devotion to the Assisteens Auxiliary of As- sistance League of Orange and its many community service pro- grams. This class was challenged by the restrictions of the pandem- ic, but the young women and men contributed hundreds of hours in volunteer service and mentoring their fellow Assisteens, in ad- dition to staffing the Assistance League Thrift Shop and other fundraisers. Assisteens Chair- man Simone Bilodeau, in accept- ing the Chairman’s Award from Assisteens Coordinator Deena Arnold, summed up the year as having delivered on her theme of “Aspire to Inspire.” A number of Assisteens were recognized for their accomplish- ments during the past year. The Most Spirited New Member Award was given to Adria Eick- hoff; the Most Outstanding New Member Award was presented to Ashlee Augustine. Chairmanship Awards went to Kayalani DeGrave, Norah Dome, Kaitlyn Helffrich, Hud- son Kridle and Jonah Meis. The N.O.R.M.A. Award was present- ed to Assisteens who live up to the motto “Nothing Overwhelms ‘R Magnificent Assisteens,” in- cluding Michelle Bae, Gabby Paonessa and Raegan Schlueter. The Coveny Spirit Award was given to Alaiya Garcia, and the Acts of Kindness Award went to Caitlin O’Dea. Junior Sam Malo received the Most Outstanding Assisteen Award. Parents of three of the Medallion recipients were also honored with the Medal- lion Circle Award for their con- tributions to the Auxiliary: Lori Cheyne, Tricia Gray and Sacha Kauffman. The Assisteens Auxiliary in- cludes over 100 students from 7th to the 12th grades who volunteer a minimum of 30 hours per year with philanthropic programs in the community and develop lead- ership and team skills through committee activities and projects. The Orange City Council commemorated Woman’s History Month by awarding the Woman's Club of Orange a Proclamation honoring the group’s many years of community service, March 28. The Villa Park Women’s League acknowledged Earth Day weekend by dedicating a tree at The Knowles honoring the community service of league members over the years. Villa Park Women’s League elects officers The Villa Park Women’s League reports that this has been a record-setting year for membership, with over 52 new members joining. The quarterly general meet- ing was well attended, and the slate of officers recommended by the Nominating Committee was unanimously approved by the attendees. President Risa Scott will continue for a second term, as bylaws were recently amended. Terri Vernon will be the incoming Vice President; Margo Godlove will serve as Programs Chair; Stephanie Abou Jaoude and Pam Dunn will be Philan- thropy Co-chairs; Lorena Shaver will serve as Membership Chair; Candy Carlberg will be Treasur- er; and Marilyn Liu will be Re- cording Secretary. After voting, the members were entertained by Tom Horvath, “The Young Man of Broadway.” On June 25 at 4 p.m., VPWL will host a Summer Fling at the home of Bridgett Baril. Members will acknowledge the outgoing Board of Directors, and welcome the leadership for the new year, beginning July 1.
