Lukus Alvarado, an ElMo Vanguard, scores against Dana Hills in the CIF baseball playoffs. Zach Mattern from VPHS went 1-3 at the plate against Huntington Beach. Aaron Sambeth, the VP Spartan pitcher, struck out 3 and gave up 4 hits in the CIF playoff game against Huntington Beach. VPHS lost, 3-5. Finlay Reyes from Villa Park High rounds the corner, heading to home and scoring one of three Spartan runs. El Modena’s Logan Asch dives back on the pick-off attempt. El Modena bested Dana Hills, 9-3. Adrian Perez from El Modena goes over the shoulder to catch an infield pop-up. Fullerton College (21-0) cap- tured the Orange Empire Confer- ence (OEC) in womens softball. The Fullerton College Hornets completed an undefeated 21-0 season, becoming the first team since 2017 to go undefeated in OEC play. Santiago Canyon College saved the best for last, dropping foe Saddleback 8-3 in the last game of the season, eliminating Saddleback from post-season competition. SCC finished (6-15, 13-27) in sixth place. SCC Hawk Raneem Kerdiya (Beckman High) was named Orange Empire Confer- ence Defensive Player of the Year and selected to the second team, All-OEC Conference. Kerdiya was Santiago’s catcher. Offen- sively she batted .277, hitting 5 home runs and 9 doubles and 23 RBIs. Alyssa Patlan led off for San- tiago Canyon College and was named to the Orange Empire Conference first team; she batted .389, posting 49 hits and 4 triples, only striking out 4 times. Patlan stole 22 bases during the season.
