El Modena High School held its Hall of Fame, May 15, honoring the athletes of 2022-23, the most valuable player in each sport and inducted three former El Modena athletes. Inducted into the ElMo Hall of Fame was multi-sport athlete Randy Bauer. Bauer was a football player in 1976, 1977, and 1978, and the team captain of the 1978 CIF Championship football team. Bauer holds the Orange County scoring record of 185 points, and was All-County and All-CIF second team offense in 1978. Bauer played his last prep game in the Orange County All-Star game in 1979 before playing for the Santa Ana College Dons. In track and field, Bauer was All-CIF in the long jump in 1977, All-Century League pole vaulter in 1979 and ran decathlon (5,300 points) in 1979. El Modena retired his jersey, number 34. Tara Henry, another multi-sport Santiago Canyon College softball team was back in the news after placing three athletes on the All-Orange Empire Conference First Team. Brooke Owens, Lindsey Marschall, and Riley Piattoni, all sophomores, were named to the First Team. Named to the Second Team was freshman Alyssa Jauregui, who led the team in home runs, with six. Owens batted .252, scored 16 runs and 18 RBIs. Marschall batted .396. Patterson batted .345, and led the team with 27 RBIs. Named to the California All-State team in softball was sophomore Lindsey Marschall. athlete, was also inducted into the Hall of Fame. Henry played softball, track & field and tennis for the Vanguards from 1999- 2003. Henry was a four-time All- CIF, All-League and All-County selection in softball and NFCA All-American. She participated in the CIF Softball Championship game, and holds a record of 103 stolen bases. Henry was the 2001 Century League tennis finals qualifier, was a three-time Century League doubles player and qualified for the CIF doubles post-season play. She received an athletic scholarship to play softball at UCLA, where she played four years and won the NCAASoftball National Championship in 2004. Henry is the co-founder and managing editor of “D1Softball,” established the non-profit “Run the Bases” and was named the 2023 Head Coach of the Great Britain National Softball Team. Ashley VanBoxmeer, who played softball and volleyball from 1998-2002, was also inducted. She was a four-time All-Century League player in softball and volleyball, named to the All-County softball team, and ended her ElMo run playing in the 2002 Orange County All- Star game. VanBoxmeer received a scholarship and played softball at Cal State, Fullerton, where she was First Team All-Mountain West in 2002, three-time All-Big West Conference Team, four- time NCAA All-Region Team, 2006 Big West Player of the Year and Member of the Canadian National Team, 2002-07, and a Gold Medalist at the World Games in 2007. Athletic coaches recognized the top athlete in each sport: Owen Smith, football; Juliet Allred, girls volleyball; Nathan Courvoisier, boys cross country; Leslie Santiago, girls cross country; Charlotte Wagner, girls tennis); Kody Nguyen, boys tennis: Kalen Lenz, cheer; Ella Parker, pom; Spencer Amsberry, boys basketball; Claire Hughes, girls basketball; Hudson Lambert, boys soccer; Allyson DeMoss, girls soccer; Claire Timmermans, girls water polo; JonathanAlvarez, boys water polo; and Jonathan Sanchez, boys wrestling; Also honored were Lena-Mae Nelson, girls wrestling; Sam Astor, baseball; DeannaDavidson, softball; Ryan Guzman, boys volleyball; Blake Armstrong, boys track & field; Fatima Soriano, girls track & field; Evan Bui, boys swim; Maria Segovia, girls swim; Nico Grajeda, boys lacrosse; Joanna Gonzalez, girls lacrosse; Trent Senters, boys golf; and Teodora Klebau, girls golf. Kylie Tafua was named Female Rookie of the Year, and Logan Honikel was awarded Male Rookie of the Year. Male and Female Athletes of the Year honors went to Drew Rodriguez, basketball; and Emery Bullock, swim and volleyball.
