The Orange Elks donated $1,000, and Elks member Kelley Martinez added $2,000 for a total of $3,000. Salute to Service celebrates local grads Assistance League of Orange volunteers honored 38 high school seniors and their families at the annual Salute to Service celebration on May 17. This unique program recognizes students who are soon to begin basic training in all branches of the U.S. military or enter military academies. The Orange High School ROTC Color Guard began the event with a high precision flag ceremony. Recruits from nine local area high schools and their guests then heard an inspirational message from Lt. Colonel Manju Vig, Garrison Commander of the Joint Forces Base at Los Alamitos, followed by a patriotic performance by the Orange Community Master Chorale led by Michael Short, Orange High Music Director. Each honoree received a certificate of special recognition from Mariana Flores, Office of U.S. Congressman Lou Correa, as well as a gift of gratitude from Assistance League From left, Calvin Vu, an Army recruit from Orange High, with Assistance League President Leslie Sorrells and his mom, who received an American Freedom red rose from the Enchanted Florist in Orange. The Woman’s Club of Orange awarded $1,500 scholarships to five college-bound OUSD seniors at its May luncheon.
