Lincoln Avenue, Orange, CA 92865 © 2023 Sunrise Senior Living Legion Speakeasy slated to raise the roof The American Legion Post 132 Auxiliary will host a Speakeasy and Casino Night fundraiser on Saturday, Aug. 19, to help pay for a new roof for the Post’s 100-year-old building. The lodge invites the public to step back into the time of pro- hibition, where you “turn your cup” and “speak easy” if the cops come. Tickets are $45, and include cocktails, music of the period, a silent auction, side attractions, play money and food. Guests may add entry into the Whiskey Members of the American Legion Auxiliary Unit 132 in Orange help prepare for the Casino and Speakeasy fundraiser the Post is hosting on Saturday, Aug. 19. Post 132 is still celebrating its previous efforts to raise $100,000 for new windows for its historic building. Post members met that challenge, and are prepared to do it again for the roof. The Speakeasy and Casino night will be held from 5:30 p.m. to 11 p.m. at the Post, 143 S. Lemon Street. Tickets are available at orange- post132.com. Charlotte Vaughn receives inaugural Assistance League award Assistance League of Orange announced longtime member and past president Charlotte Vaughn is the recipient of the chapter’s first ever Anne Banning Leader- ship Award. The award is named after the founder of Assistance League, who promoted the growth of volunteerism through leadership and education at the organization’s start over 100 years ago. The award demonstrates the importance and value of leadership to Assistance League chapters, while also honoring the accomplishments and dedication of the recipient. Vaughn exemplifies the core values of the chapter. She is a born leader, and an enthusiastic ambassador for the organization. Her talents lie in administration, succession planning, and strate- gic thinking. She builds confidence in other members, challenges everyone to do their part, and works tire- lessly to ensure her fellow mem- bers will not fail. She is candid in her communications and com- passionate in respect and service to others. She promotes leader- ship that is ethical, sensitive and fosters risk-taking and forward- thinking. Because of her spirited enthu- siasm for Assistance League and the impact her efforts have had on the organization and local community, the awards commit- tee chose to present the inaugural Anne Banning Leadership Award to Char.
