Elks recognize Youth Achievement Emma Hoffman is the re- cipient of an Orange Elks Youth Achievement Award for student volunteerism and scholastic ex- cellence. Hoffman volunteers with a number of organizations, includ- ing Orange Public Library, St. Norbert Catholic Church, The Music Room and El Modena Branch Library. She served as El Modena High School representa- tive at the Orange Unified School Board meetings. She graduated from El Modena High with a 4.8 GPA and was a member of the National Honor Society, varsity dance captain, Homeless Club president, Junior Class president, and Halo Club president. She received the Gold- Seal Life Membership for her four years of academic excellence, the Presidential Volunteer Service Award, and the Scholar-Athlete Award for Academic Achieve- ment. She will be attending the University of Arizona in the fall. The Seniors Over Sixty dance crew entertained shoppers at the Chap- man Avenue Albertsons, June 21, with a flash mob performance. The seniors are part of a Zumba class taught by Susie Vanderlip. They also take their show on the road to senior living centers and the Long Beach Aquarium. The Tustin Area Historical Soci- ety hopes to preserve the control tower adjacent to the Tustin blimp hangar, along with the hangar itself. The control tower, built in 1964, is not “historic,” but was an active part of the Marine Base until it closed in 1999. The soci- ety wants to transform the control tower into a museum dedicated to the personnel who served at the base. The group is soliciting sup- port for the project.
