Foothills Sentry September 2020

Foothills Sentry Page 10 September 2020 As a parent of two young chil- dren attending school in Orange Unified, I have been a frequent volunteer on campus and have seen firsthand many of the chal- lenges our district faces. My business and technology exper- tise, combined with my passion for public education, make me uniquely qualified to help lead our district in these difficult times. I know the importance of a high-quality education and men- torship in helping students over- come a variety of obstacles to learning. As a child, I struggled with dys- lexia. However, with the support of my family, excellent teachers and mentors, I persevered. That strong educational foundation allowed me to be the first in my family to graduate college and eventually earn my master’s de- gree. Education has opened many doors in my life, and we must continue to provide those op- portunities to all of our children. Quality public education is the foundation of our democracy, and is the engine for economic growth. Strong schools attract families to our neighborhoods and increase property values. As your trustee, I will fight to make each of our neighborhood public schools a source of pride and student success. I would be honored to serve our community. www.TigerCosmos.com It has been my honor to serve as your Orange Unified School Dis- trict board member since 2008. During my time on the board, my priority has been to make deci- sions that benefit students, par- ents and the community. Born and raised in Orange, I am invested in making our com- munity the best it can be. That starts with our schools. My education background in- cludes a doctorate in educational leadership and a master of arts in school administration. Having experience teaching in the class- room has helped guide me in my decision-making. Educational excellence is my top priority. During my time as your board member, OUSD schools have won multiple award, California Gold Ribbon Schools Award; National Blue Ribbon Award; Golden Bell Award; Dis- tinguished School Award. As your school board member, I will continue to: provide high- quality educational programs; fight for strong fiscal oversight and keep our district’s budget bal- anced; protect your tax dollars; and ask the tough questions. My leadership and experience have earned me the support of: Supervisor Don Wagner; Rick Ledesma; Trustee John Ortega; Orange City Councilman Chip Monaco. Thank you for your consider- ation. God bless. I am a lifelong resident of Or- ange, alumna of Orange Unified School District, and proud parent of an OUSD student. It would be my honor to bring my experience as a classroom teacher, college professor, administrator, pub- lished researcher, policy expert in child development, and cur- riculum developer for diverse learners to OUSD. Teachers in- spired my career in education. They helped develop my leader- ship skills that strengthened my educational practice, sharpened my early childhood development expertise, and sustained my advo- cacy for students. As the director of Pretend City Children’s Mu- seum, I regularly collaborate with the best educational minds in the county. I am proud to be endorsed by my fellow educators and com- munity leaders, including: Con- gressman Lou Correa; Orange Unified School District Trustees Kathy Moffat, Andrea Yamasaki and Kris Erickson. Strong public schools benefit our entire com- munity and they must meet a vari- ety of student needs. I will ensure innovative programs to serve all students. Fiscal responsibility is critical. As the director of a non- profit, I am well-versed in stretch- ing educational dollars to benefit our students. I believe new lead- ership committed to working col- laboratively will improve OUSD. I am experienced and ready to serve our community. www.anapageforousd.com Serving as a teacher in Orange County for more than 20 years has given me insight into what’s needed to improve the quality of education in our schools. In ad- dition to my teaching credential, I have a master’s degree in edu- cational technology. As a third- generation resident of the City of Orange, I understand and will represent all residents to improve our district’s excellence. I attended local schools grow- ing up and graduated from Or- ange County schools. Additional- ly, my two children also attended local Orange County schools. I want Orange Unified School District schools to provide what is needed for the betterment of students and their future. We can have a positive impact on our dis- trict and the way our schools are run by working with parents and teachers to find the most effective and efficient solutions. It is important to have our chil- dren safely learning in our class- rooms. Parents, teachers, and board members need to come to- gether to assure a healthy school environment can be created and maintained. I will strive to go above and beyond what is expected of a Trustee for the Orange Unified School District. It is not a task I take lightly. I would be honored to have your vote. Carrie Lundell Area 6 Public school boards should be led by people experienced in and passionate about public edu- cation. My husband and I chose to send our four children to pub- lic school, and for more than a decade I have dedicated myself to the betterment of our OUSD schools. As a coach, classroom assis- tant, art teacher, PTO/PTA presi- dent, and as part of a curriculum review committee, my daily ex- perience in OUSD provides me a birds-eye view of the strengths and challenges OUSD faces. My work has earned me the formal endorsement of our classroom teachers, community leaders, volunteers, parents and OUSD Trustees Yamasaki, Mof- fat and Erickson. As a successful small business owner, I know the importance of fiscal responsibil- ity and will ensure our tax dollars are dedicated to the needs of our students and not to private or spe- cial interest groups. As taxpayers, we deserve to have successful and desirable schools in every neigh- borhood. I want the best, not just for my own children, but for our com- munity’s children. It’s more im- portant than ever for the Orange Unified community to embody the word “unified.” I am commit- ted to being a bridge-builder and bringing our community together to give OUSD students a brighter future.
