The bird, which is an egret, is practicing social distancing on the campus of Beck- man High School in Tustin Unified. The district began the new school year on Aug. 13, with students in all grades at home with distance learning. The district looks forward to opening schools for in-person classes as soon as it can do so safely. Just so you know, the bird moved on without any egrets. -- Mark Eliot SCC Foundation will distribute $102,000 in named scholarships The Santiago Canyon College (SCC) Foundation will disburse over $102,000 in Named Scholarships to students in the upcoming 2020-21 academic year, thanks to the generous donations of community members, alumni, faculty and staff. Students who will receive Named Annual Scholar- ships this year will contin- ue their studies at SCC, or transfer to four-year univer- sities. Named Annual Scholar- ships will also be awarded to students taking classes in the Division of Continuing Education or transitioning from Continuing Educa- tion to a for-credit college degree or certification pro- gram at SCC. With a minimum dona- tion of $500 per year for five consecutive years, an individual or business can establish a Named Annual Scholarship. Individuals may name a scholarship in honor or memory of their family or a loved one. Businesses sponsor scholarships to support stu- dents, and highlight their company’s commitments to corporate good citizenship. Scholarships distributed under this program repre- sent only a portion of all private scholarship aid the foundation disburses an- nually; last year, the foun- dation distributed over $262,000 in private schol- arship support to students. To learn more about mak- ing a tax-deductible gift to establish a Named Annual Scholarship, please email foundation@sccollege.edu or visit sccollegefounda- tion.org. SCC golf tourney rescheduled The 20th annual “Changing Students’ Lives” Golf Tournament originally slated for April has been rescheduled to Friday, Oct. 9 at Strawberry Farms Golf Club. Net proceeds from the tournament, spon- sored by the SCC Foundation, benefit the Hawk’s Nest Food Pantry and Basic Needs Center at Santiago Canyon College. Social distancing guidelines will be fol- lowed. For information, sponsorships or reg- istration visit sccollegefoundation.org/golf- tournament.
