Comic Convention supports Orange libraries Correction The Orange Public Library at 407 E. Chapman will host a Com- ic Convention book sale, Satur- day, Sept. 14, from noon to 4 p.m. Located in the front foyer of the library, the sale will feature comic books, anime and graphic novels. Proceeds will go to all three Orange libraries, which, due to the city’s deficit, need funding support more than ever. In the August Sentry, “Orange to ask voters for tax increase,” Councilwoman Kathy Tavoularis was incorrectly ascribed to a state- ment regarding councilmembers giving up stipends and benefits in response to the city’s budget defi- cit. Those comments should have been attributed to Ana Gutierrez. CPOC to feature candidates The Conservative Patriots of Orange County will focus on the upcoming election at its Thurs- day, Sept. 19 meeting at the Santa Ana Elks Lodge. The group’s Parade at the Podi- um gives candidates the opportu- nity to introduce themselves and their platforms and answer ques- tions from the audience. The Thursday, Sept. 19 pro- gram features a repertoire of chart-topping hits, harmony vo- cals, rockin’ rhythms and soulful guitar solos. The band will cover such popular tunes as “Hotel California,” “Blue Bayou,” “Easy Feeling,” and “Desperado.” The concert begins at 10 a.m. at the Bowers Museum, 2002 N. Main Street, Santa Ana. Cadets in the Orange High School Junior ROTC program traveled to Washington D.C. over spring break. The group of 12 cadets got a private tour of the Capitol by Congressman Lou Correa (D-46th), visited the U.S. Naval Academy at Annapolis, and the Marine Barracks Washington where they met with the Assistant Commandant of the Marine Corps. In addition, the cadets were taken on tours of the Museum of the Marine Corps, the Washington and Lincoln Memorials, the Vietnam and Korean War Memorials, as well as Arlington National Cemetery. Greg Goodlander, president of the Orange Unified Education Associa- tion, accepted an award given to the organization at the Orange County Labor Federation Gala last month. The award was presented by State Superintendent of Public Instruction Tony Thurman (second from left) The Orange Park Association reports that tickets for the annual Fall BBQ and Dance are selling fast, and reminds those who plan to attend that last year’s event sold out. The OPA BBQ, the commu- nity’s signature fundraiser, takes place on Saturday, Sept. 21 at the home of the Sandfords. Gates open at 5:30 p.m. Valet parking is complimentary. The event features a full course BBQ dinner, a Margarita bar, si- lent and live auctions, raffle and dancing under the stars to country rock band, the Mowdy.
