Page 23 Foothills Sentry October 2022 COMMUNITY SPORTS Meet the coach Andy Thomas takes over as the head coach of the men’s soccer team at Santiago Canyon College. Thomas is originally from the Isle of Man in the United Kingdom. He spent two years playing in the Southampton Football Club (FC) Academy system and had tryouts for Manchester United, Huddersfield Town, Brentford FC and the LA Salsa. He has a bachelor’s in Physical Education from the Sahar Tanara from Canyon High School handles a serve against Villa Park. Princesses were Areli Vasquez, Hailey Navarro, Makayla Lopez and Stacy Pineda. Despite the pouring rain, El Modena High continued with its Home- coming 2022 traditions during halftime, presenting Princesses Diana Guiterrez, Karina Magana, Kalena Lenz, Elodie Danet, and crowning Marissa Sanchez as 2022 Homecoming Queen, shown above with her proud stepfather Robert Mejia. The Homecoming Court included King Esteban Coucair, with Princes Sebastian Bray, Andres Gomez, Owen Smith and Tobias Hernandez, all shown below on a sunnier day. High school homecomings OHS Jett White (6) blocks a field goal attempt. OHS returned the block for a second TD score. Kobe Boykin (2) gets an escort by Jaelen Lightfoot (3) and Khalil Lawrence (54) to the end zone for a 72- yard run. Orange shut out the Saddleback Roadrunners, 56-0, on OHS Homecoming night. He earned his English FA prelim coaching license, USSF B License and USSF National Youth License. Thomas has coached at the club and high school level in California for 28 years and was the LA Times High School Coach of the Year, winning three CIF Championships at Laguna Beach High.
