Chapman Ave. Orange, CA 92866 DAN SLATER Local skater qualifies for world cup Sofia Wolff, an Orange Luther- an High School freshman, will compete at the Figures World Cup in Freiburg, Germany. A product of Holiday Skate Club in Orange, one of the top competi- tive rinks in the country, Wolff, at 14 years old, is one of the young- est to ever qualify to represent the U.S. at a World Figures Skat- ing event. Artistic roller skating, similar to ice figure skating, is recog- nized by the United States Olym- pic Committee as a competitive international roller sport. Wolff’s discipline in skating is figures and loops. Figure skating de- mands tracing accuracy, body control and extreme concentra- tion. Each skater retraces a series of figure patterns--combining a variety of difficult take-offs, edg- es and turns--on a set of circles (figures and loops) painted on the skating surface. Throughout her skating career, Wolff has won seven national titles and one international title, the coveted America’s Cup. At USARS 2023 National Cham- pionships in Lincoln, Nebraska, she earned four medals and be- came a member of Team USA. “Qualifying for Worlds is one of the highlights of my skating career,” she says. “One of my goals as a student-athlete is to inspire young skaters to pursue their passions. With hard work, a great coach, and determination, you can succeed in both sports and school.” Her family is fundraising to off- set travel costs on gofundme.com .
