Young Women of the Month resumes with fall semester The Tustin Area Women’s Club honors an outstanding senior from each of the area high schools ev- ery month. Awardees for October are Kennedy Lind from Foothill High and Alia Hartwig from Tu- stin high. Kennedy Lind is a member of the Foothill Associated Student Body, and serves as the athletics commissioner. She is the captain of the girls flag football team, which is in its first season at Foot- hill. Outside of school, she is in- volved with the National Charity League and currently serves as the senior class treasurer. Lind plans to attend an out-of-state school to pursue a degree in jour- nalism or sports management. Alia Hartwig moved to Tus- tin from Colorado, and is in her second year at Tustin High. She plays varsity soccer as a mid- fielder, and varsity volleyball as a libero. Hartwig participates in the National Honor Society, National Art Honor Society, and Model United Nations. Her favorite high school moment was being on Homecoming Court. Hartwig works at In-N-Out Burger and attends church with her family. She plans to major in mathemat- ics, with an eye to engineering or teaching at the college level. The Women’s Club also hon- ored Hulya Bilgic from Beckman High and Scarlett Andrade from Tustin Legacy. Central OC Dems to host holiday brunch The Central Orange County Democratic Club will hold its an- nual holiday brunch on Saturday, Dec. 2 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. in Tustin Hills. Admission is free for new and renewing members, and $30 for non-members. Dues are $20 per year for a single membership, or $30 per year for a household. The address will be provided upon RSVP, which can be done on the club website at CentralOCDems.com. Central OC Dems includes Tu- stin, Tustin Hills, Orange, Villa Park, and surrounding communi- ties, but all Democrats are wel- come. BSA Troop 538 to host ice cream social Boy Scout Troop 538 invites families to an open house and ice cream social, to be held from 7 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 7. Founded 48 years ago, Boy Scout Troop 538 offers opportu- nities in leadership, community involvement, group activities, ad- venturous outings, such as cam- pouts, backpacking and hikes, and essential life-skills. The troop meets Tuesday nights at Canyon Hills Presbyterian Church, and is open to boys ages 11 and up and/ or as early as fifth grade. The church is located at 190 S. Fairmont Blvd. in Anaheim. The Woman's Club of Orange awarded its Inspirational Young Woman Award to, from left, Alyssa Bindra, Canyon High; Alexis Ruiz, Orange High; and Davehna Ramirez, Richland High. These Orange Unified District high school students have overcome numerous challenges in their young lives, and were selected by their high school principals, teachers and counselors. The awards were presented at a club lun- cheon in October. Vietnam vets to be honored The Community Foundation of Orange will recognize all those who served in the Vietnam War at the 2023 Orange Field of Valor at Handy Park on Sat., Nov. 11 at 2:30 p.m. Vets will be given a commemorative 50th Anniver- sary Vietnam Veteran lapel pin. Living U.S. Veterans who served on active duty in the U.S. Armed Forces at any time during the pe- riod of Nov. 1, 1955 to May 15, 1975, regardless of location, are eligible to receive one lapel pin. Tustin Mayor’s Breakfast slated The annual Tustin Mayor’s Breakfast, hosted by the Tustin Community Foundation, will be held Thursday, Nov. 16, from 7 to 9 a.m. Guests are invited to spend the morning with Tustin Mayor Aus- tin Lumbard, members of the Tu- stin City Council, local business and community leaders, city and school district representatives and nonprofit volunteers. The founda- tion will present its 2023 commu- nity grants and accept donations for the Tustin Salvation Army Red Kettle campaign.
