At the most recent event, over 40 Elks and friends donated. The next Elks Blood Drive is slated for March 2025 – another exam- ple of the Orange Elks helping a community partner. The Orange County Campaign Finance and Ethics Committee recog- nized long time political watchdog Shirley Grindle at its Oct. 21 meet- ing. Grindle was honored for her work on campaign finance reform and for spearheaded the formation of that committee. A separate reso- lution presented by District Attorney Todd Spitzer acknowledged her many other accomplishments, including protecting open space in East Orange. Memorial remembrance pays tribute to county firefighters Photos by Tony Richards The 2024 Orange County Fire Service Memorial, honoring fire- fighters who lost their lives during the previous year, was held Oct. 8 at Irvine Park. This year’s service paid tribute to 34 individuals from 12 munici- pal fire departments and the Or- ange County Fire Authority. Or- ange Fire Chief Sean deMetropo- lis welcomed the attendees; Or- ange Fire Department ambulance operator Ezra Tafua sang the Na- tional Anthem. As each name was read, the bell was rung and a rose placed at the base of the Firefight- ers Memorial that is permanently located in Irvine Park.
