Labs in the new STEM facility are accessed along a long and large gleaming hallway. Orange Principal Dennis McCuistion explains the features of chemis- try lab teaching stations and electronic resources. OUSD’s Ymisserah Guerra introduces the refur- bished Orange High Little Theater. The new Orange High School Science Center was unveiled dur- ing a sneak peak preview, Nov. 7 in advance of its Nov. 30 open- ing for students. The Science Center, dedicated to STEM (sci- ence, technology, engineering and math) studies is the first of four funded by Measure S to be completed. The science build- ings at El Modena, Villa Park and Canyon High Schools are still un- derway. At the same time the STEM center was under construction, the school’s aging little theater was upgraded with fresh paint, graphics, wiring, new dressing rooms and seating. The little the- ater refurbishment was paid for with deferred maintenance funds, not money from Measure S. A new performing arts logo was part of the up- grade package. Long overdue new theater seating not only spruces up the room, it promises to keep audiences from squirming in discomfort. The original seating in the OHS Little Theater was 50 years old -- and looked it. Photos by Tony Richards
