Foot- hill played Thursday, handing Ruben Ayala a 31-14 loss; they bowed to Serra the following week, with a 34-7 loss. Playoff games created schedule chaos El Modena, Villa Park and Orange all qualified for the CIF- SS Football Playoffs, creating a logjam for Fred Kelly Field, as all drew home games for the first round. Schedules were juggled and ElMo (8-4), the Crestview League at-large team, faced Dana Hills (8-2), winning in overtime, 23-20 on Thursday. On Friday, in Division 4, Orange High (7-4) was eliminated by La Serna, 49- 14. Villa Park took the field on Saturday night, and fell victim to Loyola, 35-14. The following week, ElMo traveled to Beaumont and came away with a 33-14 win, advanc- ing to the semi-finals against Oak Christian, where they lost, 24-14. Wild conference finish in women’s soccer Santiago Canyon and Saddle- back College dueled to a 0-0 tie for the season, with neither giving up a single goal. Cypress College was the spoiler, stopping Saddleback’s six-game winning streak. SCC (17-2-1) was seeded sixth in the CCCAA Women’s Soccer Playoffs, and won against Santa Barbara City College (10-5-3), but fell to Cypress in Round 2 of the SoCal Regionals. Saddleback bested Ventura in their second round, and will face Cypress in round 3 before continuing to the state semifinals.
