Parker is the starting point guard. The other returnees are Kai Smith an All-Conference selection, Joey Longo, Dane Kiefer and Isaiah Arthurton. Two sophomore transfers are Caleb Hong from Long Beach City and Justin Powell from Modesto Col- lege. Head Coach Todd Dixon also welcomed six incoming freshmen. Santiago Canyon is ranked eighth in California in pre-season polling. Out the gate, Santiago Canyon put on a shooting dis- Santiago Canyon College women's soccer (10-2-2, 14-3-3) captured second place in the Or- ange Empire League, and placed three players on the First Team All-Conference and three on the Second Team. Kiera Hanna (El Modena), Elyse Valenzuela and Jordan Salinas were all named to the All-OEC First Team. Named to the Second Team were Aubrey Bryant (Tustin), Jordyn Lamastra and Marlene Ruiz. Valerie Ibarra (Orange) played for Santa Ana College and was selected to the OEC Second Team. Santiago Canyon entered the CCCAA State Regional play- offs against Cypress College, the third-place finisher in the league. Santiago had beaten Cypress twice in the regular season. Santi- ago Canyon women’s soccer sea- son came to an end, as they were shut out, 4-0, in the first round of the playoffs. Santiago and Cypress played to a scoreless first half. Cypress gave Santiago Canyon only two scoring opportunities. Cypress opened up the scoring in the sec- ond half with two back-to-back goals, added a goal in the 63rd minute and then scored on a pen- alty kick. In women’s volleyball, Santia- go Canyon named Chelsea Riedel to the All-OEC First Team, and Sarah Violett to the Second Team. Cypress College goalkeeper So- fia Lopez (Foothill High) saves a goal in the playoffs against San- tiago Canyon College. Juan Pablo Alvarez, Santiago Canyon College goalkeeper, blocked the shot and took a shot to the ribs from the Saddleback player. Aaron Yac from Santiago Canyon College gets the pass off as the Sad- dleback defender moves in. Saddleback won the final league game, 5-3. SCC finished 0-12-2 in Orange Empire League play. Ayleen Jimenez (Villa Park High) started for Santiago Canyon against Cypress College. Jimenez fights for possession of the ball. Cypress College won the first round, 4-0, in the CCCAA Women's Soccer Play- offs. Stiff defense by Wesley Lundell (10), Ardwon Morris (5), Victor Sala- zar (12), and Cristobal Quirarte (9) stop the Rio Hondo runner. Or- ange was eliminated in the quarter finals in Division 9 of the CIF Boys Football Playoffs. Battle of the 10s ends in the end zone. Henry Wonderlick (74) from Villa Park opened the hole to spring Carter Christie’s touchdown run against Millikan High School. Villa Park won first round, 28-21, in the Division 3 CIF Boys Foot- ball Playoffs. play, capturing the Dana Pagett Tournament held at Santa Ana College, winning 91-70 over Glendale College, and 95-78 over Long Beach City. Tony Colley was named the tournament MVP, shooting 13 and 21 points. Longo and Parker were named to the All-Tournament Team. Parker led SCC with 21 points against Long Beach, and 11 against Glendale; Longo posted 23 total points. In the opening Long Beach game, five players were in double fig- ures. Trevor Manning came off the bench contributing 15 points. Santiago takes six wins and a sin- gle loss into the holiday schedule.
