TAWC names Young Women of the Month The Tustin Area Woman’s Club named Jessica Jaramillo of Tu- stin High School and Madison Gardner of Foothills High as its Young Women of the Month for November. Jessica Jaramillo is the daugh- ter of Mexican parents who moved to California to give her a better future. She competes on the Tustin High soccer and track and field team at the varsity level. She also plays club soccer. Jara- millo loves math, and plans to study business administration and accounting in college. Her dream school is Oregon State Univer- sity, as it has a first-rate soccer program. If she stays local, she hopes to attend Cal State Fuller- ton or UC Irvine. Madison Garner competes on the varsity swim team special- izing in the 200m freestyle. She has been involved in competitive swimming for 11 years. Garner is an attorney on the Foothills High mock trial team, and enjoys the public speaking and aspects of law that she is learning. She vol- unteers on the board of the Max- Love Project, which helps kids battling childhood cancer. She is also a sailing coach in Dana Point. Garner plans to study his- tory in college, with a minor in criminal justice or political sci- ence with a pathway to a career in law, teaching or possibly be- ing a museum curator. TAWC also named Joceyln Yu of Legacy Magnet Academy and Joelle Kim of Beckman High School with November honors. Zimmerman named VP Distinguished Citizen Chad Zimmerman, former Vil- la Park mayor, city councilman, vice chair of the Community Services Foundation, VP Rotary Club president and beekeeper, was named a Villa Park Distin- guished Citizen, Oct. 24. Chad and his wife Margaret moved to Villa Park in 2007. He has been an enthusiastic volun- teer ever since. He was cubmas- ter for son Will’s Cub Scout Pack 850 and chief of his daughter Ally’s Indian Princess tribe. As a Rotarian, he served on the endowment board, was assistant district governor, chair of the Vo- cational Avenue of Service and current chair of Youth Services. He was president, 2017-18. A hobby beekeeper, Zimmer- man has rescued several incon- venient hives around Villa Park at the behest of friends, neighbors and the Serrano Water District. He says he would like to be remembered as “the guy you can count on to be there and help make things better for all con- cerned.” Shout out for trout The annual Trout Fishing Der- by will take place at Irvine Lake, Saturday, Dec. 9, from 6 a.m. to 1 p.m. In addition to shoreline fishing, the event features blind bogey drawings and prizes. Food trucks will be onsite, bait and tackle available for purchase. Registration begins at 5 a.m. Parking is $5. The lake is located at 4621 San- tiago Canyon Road. The Orange Elks donated flags to the Parkside Education Center for the flagpole and every classroom.
