Looking for love Marlin Jules The abandoned Sears building on Tustin Street has been leased to Pan- da Mart, a South African company offering discounted Chinese-made household items, clothing and electronics. The Orange location will be Panda Mart’s first foray into the United States. The Sears property is controlled by Transformco, which took over the lease in the wake of Sears bankruptcy. Sears had a 90-year lease on that property that will not expire for another 30 years. The building is part of the former Village At Orange, much of which has been torn down by property owner TRC. The JCPenney building and adjacent parking lot is owned by another company, Integral Communities. TPSF Dino Dash is a roaring success By Mark Eliot Tustin recently celebrated a dino-mite day! More than 7,000 community members made the Tustin Public Schools Founda- tion's 2024 Dinosaur Dash Ride and Run For Education on Nov. 3 a successful forum of fun and fitness at the Tustin Market Place. The Dash raised more than $400,000 that will go di- rectly back to classrooms and schools for educational programs throughout the Tustin Unified School District. Hundreds of vol- unteers, led by Dino Dash Co- Chairs Kate Kersten and Kristin Simpkins, worked behind the scenes during the year to make a welcoming, fun and safe day. Students, staff and parents volun- teered at the 33rd annual event; elementary students competed in a poster contest; and high school students created unique dinosaur trophies for division winners and sponsors. Foothill High School student Danica Cho had the win- ning Dino Dash design that was featured on all T-shirts, bags, race bibs and promotional ma- terials. The event included 2K, 5K and 10K races, and a bike tour, as well as an expo and food court. Title Sponsor Balfour Be- atty continued its support, as did 2K Sponsor PacificWest, and 5K Sponsor My Private Professor. In addition, the Tustin Auto Center presented a check for more than $60,000 from their Drive for Edu- cation Event.
