ElMo advanced to the quarter-finals and traveled to face Thousand Oaks for the sec- ond time this season. In the first meeting, El Modena had pulled out a 41-34 overtime win. Xzavior Guess passed for 237 yards, tossing two touchdowns. Brodie Hitchens rushed for 75 yards on 15 carries and caught three passes, one for a touch- down. In second round playoffs, af- ter a successful on-side kick off, Guess called his own number for a 24-yard run for a touch- down. Ethan Sorenson’s PAT was good. Thousand Oaks turned the ball over on El Modena’s 6. After swapping interceptions, El Modena held a 7-0 halftime lead. Thousand Oaks scored late in the 3rd quarter to even the score at 7-7. Guess answered with a 39-yard strike to Connor Smith to take the lead back, 14-7. El Modena turned the ball over, put- ting Thousand Oaks at ElMo’s 10. Thousand Oaks scored from 11 yards out. After a blocked punt, Thousand Oaks drove to the ElMo 6 and scored with less than one minute remaining. Thousand Oaks intercepted Guess to end El Modena’s season, 21-14. Villa Park / Foothill In Division 3, Villa Park High School (7-4) lost in the first round to Vista, 23-20. In Division 5, Foothill High School traveled to Moorpark High School. The Epsilon at- large team took a 30-28 loss first round, which could have been coach Doug Case’s final prep game. Girls Team Tennis Water Polo In Division 1, Foothill High School (3-5), the Crestview League Number 2 team, lost to University High School. In Division 7, Orange High School (11-7-1), the Orange League Number 1 qualifier, tied El Monte High School. In the Open Division, Foothill lost the first two rounds in pool play against Oaks Christian, 12- 6, and Mater Dei, 15-12. In Division 3, Villa Park High School (12-16-0) faced Dana Hills High School in the first round and lost, 10-2. In Division 4, El Modena High School (16-11-0), the North Hills League Number 3 team, lost to Calabasas High School, 12-8. In Division 5, Orange High School‘s (11-8-0) season ended with a 16-3 first round loss. Kayleigh Guyot from Santiago Canyon College (from Canyon High) spikes the ball for the score against Saddleback College. Nothing gets past Santiago Canyon College’s Chelsea Riedel in the back court. Foothill’s John Bergstedt (13) advances the ball upfield, scoring two goals against Mater Dei. Cooper Nagele from El Modena takes on the Santa Barbara DB to score in the first round of the CIF-SS football playoffs. El Modena held on for a 28-21 win.
