Bobbie grew up in Spokane, where she attended Gonzaga University and had the pleasure of being Home- coming Queen in her senior year. After her graduation in 1952, Bobbie became a Pan Am airline stewardess, which began her trav- el career and adventures. While she was in Honolulu on a layover with Pan Am, Bobbie met her husband Claude Pret- tyman at the Moana Hotel on Waikiki Beach. Claude was a Naval Officer and was aboard an aircraft carrier on his way to Japan. They fell in love almost instantly and after a year of love letters sent from all over the world, they were married in Spokane in 1955 and started their family. They had five children: Cindy Prettyman, Tracy Pretty- man, Claude Prettyman 3rd (mar- ried to Jill), Patty Ferdi (married to Bill), and Janice Prettyman Holland (married to Robbie). They had five grandchildren: Amber, Ellese, Jamie, Tom and Bryana, and nine great-grand- children. While raising their children, they moved to Villa Park in 1973. Bobbie joined the Villa Park Women’s League and enjoyed the company of many lifelong friends. She worked as an airline customer service agent with Air California at the Orange County Airport, now John Wayne Air- port, as a real estate agent, and then as a travel agent for 40 years. Bobbie enjoyed reading, travel- ing and swimming laps in her pool. She and her husband had the opportunity to travel around the world and explore many countries throughout the years. They especially loved their Monica Edwards 1962-2024 Artist, adventurer, mother and friend Monica Edwards passed with dignity Oct. 31, after a courageous battle with cancer. Even as her body weakened, she lived every day to the fullest, al- ways welcoming the company of friends and painting as long as her strength allowed. A prolific artist, she was a member of the Laguna Plein Air Painters Association for over a decade; taught visual journal- ism at Cal State University, Long Beach; displayed her work in jur- ied art shows; and illustrated chil- dren’s books. Her work has been featured in the Hilbert Museum. A longtime resident of Silvera- do Canyon, much of her artwork reflected the beauty, tranquility and gentleness of the natural en- vironment. Son Adrien described her as fearless, courageous and gentle. “She taught me to treat people right and to do good and aim high,” he said. “She introduced me to music, art and sports, want- ed me to experience what life has to offer and what I can offer this world.” Brother Alex Soffici says she was a rare combination of artist, intellectual and adventurer. She could be a gregarious social be- ing with sporadic periods of re- clusiveness. She loved gathering with friends to play music, but would also take off by herself for a few days of solitary camping in the woods. She remained friends with ex-husband Bill, with both fo- cused on doing what was best for Adrien. They continued to spend holidays and outings together. She loved spur-of-the-moment adventures -- from biking, hik- ing and picnics, to traveling to Greece, Hawaii, Utah, the San Juan islands, Florida and throughout California. Demonstrating her wide-rang- ing interests, Monica was an il- lustrator with the OC Register for 15 years, then switched to OC Parks to work at the zoo and trained to become a park ranger. A celebration of life was held Nov. 10 at the Silverado Com- munity Center, attended by her diverse friends from the canyon, the OC Register, OC Parks and the art community. cruise ship adventures. After the death of her husband, Bobbie sold their Villa Park home and moved to an apartment in Or- ange, with the desire to social- ize and enjoy activities with new friends. Bobbie’s children visited with her regularly. She enjoyed talking on the phone and going to lunch with longtime friends. In God’s providence, Bobbie and her husband passed away on the same date, two years apart, in the early hours of Sept. 22. She will be missed dearly by family and friends.
