12 | YourVilla Magazine Artist and Owners, Linda and Greg Maxson D E S I G N + B U I L D Linda and Greg Maxson opened Maxson Art Studio & Gallery in 2016. The gallery/studio has since doubled in size and is open to customers at the Rancho Mirage Plaza on Hwy 111. Featured inside are Linda’s paintings, ceramic wall pieces and sculptures, along with Greg’s live edge furniture, sculptures and drums. Art lovers and collectors are drawn to the inviting and engaging space that is the creative crucible to many works now gracing homes and collections both nationally and internationally. One example, “Crushing Inertia”, a collaborative work with fellow artist, Debi Grupe, began as an 8’ x 8’ x 11’ installation and was further developed as “A Tale of Survival” currently viewable in the Palm Springs Airport Regional terminal where it has been on display since October 2019. Linda has been creating and selling art for over 25 years. She earned her degree in fine art in Michigan while working full time and raising her family. Moving to California in 2005, she continued her studies with experts in various mediums, including ceramic tile artist, Zen Del Rio. In her quest to make two-dimensional art with clay, she discovered clay monoprints while training with Mitch Lyons, the artist known internationally for pioneering the process. Her continuous learning and experience combined with her relentless creativity and drive to push a medium to its limits result in truly unique artworks that have a distinctive flow or “dance” with the medium. After working 30 years as an engineer, Greg left his corporate career and took up the study and practice of woodworking. Greg’s work combines his love of Hawaii, his appreciation for craftsmanship and his innate, artistic sensibilities. Greg’s sculptures and live edge furniture are crafted from Hawaiian hardwoods, highlighting the natural forms and beauty of the wood, but also with an engineer’s eye for function and efficiency. He selects each individual piece for its figure and shape, then crafts designs that combine function with a style that complements any interior design.
