YVM: Would you share with us a little about your family? KS: Sure! I married my soulmate and am the mother of the absolute joys of my life. My 7-year-old daughter Daylyn, and my soon-to-be 4-year-old son, Jagger. Every day they bring me so much love and laughter that I don’t know what I ever did without them. They are in their second year at Desert Christian Academy, and it’s been such a joy watching my kids thrive in this environment. My husband Darren and I just celebrated our 20th anniversary, and we decided to treat ourselves to a spa day at the Desert Springs Marriott. It was amazing! YVM: So how do you balance your work and personal life? KS: I’ve learned that finding balance in my profession, my family and my life is key to success. I love what I do, but it’s important to remem- ber the other things in life that are just as important. My family is my support system, and they help me stay grounded. Without them, I wouldn’t be able to do what I do. During the winter, my work keeps me very busy but I enjoy hanging out at home or going on short trips when I can. In the summer, we love spending time in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, and Montana where my husband’s family live. The kids love seeing their grandparents, cousins, aunts, and uncles. It’s a great way to recharge my batteries and I can’t wait to go back again this summer! YVM: So when you were a performer, what would you say were some of the highlights in that career? KS: I had a lot of fun and keep a lot of happy memories from those days. I think I sang almost every genre there is which began in musi- cal theatre. I was on Star Search when I was 15 and at 18 performing on cruise ships where I traveled a lot of the world. I then fronted a popular swing band in Los Angeles and then to Country music where my highlight was performing at the Stagecoach Festival in Indio. YVM: Do you still sing professionally? KS: No, I don’t. These days, you’re much more likely to find me singing worship music at church than anywhere else. I had a lot of fun during my years in the music industry, but it feels like a lifetime ago now. It’s great to be able to praise God and lead others in worship, and it’s so much more rewarding than anything else I’ve done in music. YVM: Is there anything you learned in music that you apply to your real estate career? KS: Yes, a few things. I’d say that singing helped me in real estate by teaching me how to be confident and persuasive. It also taught me how to handle rejection, which is an important skill in real estate. Additionally, singing helped me develop a strong work ethic, which has been essential in my real estate career. YVM: So back to real estate for our last question. What advice would you give to a Buyer or Seller who is planning a move? KS: For those considering selling their property I’d say that with the popularity of home design and all of the home-transformation television shows, Buyers are seeking homes that are truly move-in ready. That doesn’t mean that you have to complete a home reno- vation before placing the home on the market, but crisp new paint inside and out, manicuring the landscaping, and prepping your home to look as close to a model home will do more in selling your home than anything else you can do. Making your property available for easy showings and proper pricing will help place your home at the top of realtors’ lists when choosing properties to show. For those looking at purchasing a property, I suggest that you be pre- pared before you start home shopping. If you’re not paying cash, then you will want to choose a lender. You will need a prequalification letter to submit an offer, so it’s always best to have that in hand. Also, don’t get too attached to any one property. I find that things usually work out the way they are supposed to and the right property will present itself when it’s meant to be.
