Upon request, the LandDevelopment Division will make flood zone determinations for properties within the City. FEMA maps, flood proofing publications and flood insurance information are available at the Moreno Valley Public Library. The Land Development Division also maintains elevation certificates that are available for viewing. PURCHASE FLOOD INSURANCE ON YOUR PROPERTY. Flooding is not covered by a standard homeowner’s insurance policy. Owners and renters should consider acquiring flood insurance to protect against flood losses for the structure and contents. The City participates in the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) that makes available federally backed flood insurance for all structures. Contact your insurance agency for more information. CLEAR DRAINAGE CHANNELS AND PIPES OF OBSTRUCTION AND DEBRIS. Residents are encouraged to maintain the drainage in their areas by removing or reporting obstructions (such as leaves, debris, trash, etc.). Keeping drainage channels free of obstructions reduces flooding. By way of City ordinance, it is illegal to dump trash, leaves, grease, or any other material into the City’s drainage system. To report obstructions or illegal dumping, contact the Code & Neighborhood Services Division at 951.413.3340. PROTECT YOUR PROPERTY FROM THE HAZARDS OF FLOODING. Various methods may be used to minimize flooding. If a flood is imminent, property can be protected by sandbagging areas subject to the entry of water into living spaces. The City of Moreno Valley will make site visits to provide one-on-one advice to a property owner regarding flooding and drainage issues on private property. Always check permitting requirements with the Building and Safety Division and/or the Land Development Division at 951.413.3120. BE PREPARED FOR EMERGENCIES. Keep an emergency supply of non-perishable food, water, batteries, flashlights, and a battery-operated radio .
