This unique event is the non-profit organization’s main fundraiser for the year. Picture this: the lights dim, an upbeat rendition of “Who Let the Dogs Out” plays, and a spotlight focuses on the runway as precious pups dressed to the “canines” begin to strut their stuff, followed by some of your favorite local personalities. Enjoy entertainment by Broadway singer, the incomparable Patricia Welch. Shop for beautiful indulgences from a variety of fashion vendors. Doggie fashions provided by Al Medrano, owner of Cold Nose, Warm Heart Pet Boutique. “Amy’s Purpose is pleased to honor the lovely philanthropist DeAnn Mix-Buchholz, who has proven over and over that she has a heart of gold when it comes to supporting local nonprofits,” said Amy’s Purpose President and Founder DeAnn Lubell. “In addition, we will present the annual Pet Hero Award to adorable Miss Ernie Banks accompanied by her human, Winston Gieseke.” The charity got its start after three coyotes killed a little rescue terrier, Amy, in the backyard of DeAnn LubellClarke and Jeffrey Clarke, one sunny day in December 2019. Not wanting other pet owners to experience the heartache of losing a beloved pet, the Clarkes, along with their daughter, Tanya Martin-Yee, founded Amy’s Purpose, INC., a nonprofit organization. Amy’s Purpose became an official 501(c)(3) on December 21, 2020, and will be celebrating its sixth anniversary at the end of this year. As Amy’s Purpose grew, so did its missions. A health crisis affecting animal care has crippled veterinary clinics and hospitals locally and nationally. Amy’s Purpose partnered with the College of the Desert’s Partnership and Community Education Veterinary Assistant program three years ago to help fill the gap through full scholarship opportunities for DoggieFashionShow and Dinner OCTOBER 11 AGUA CALIENTE RESORT CASINO SPA RANCHO MIRAGE continued on page 47
