Orange Lutheran tops Foothill in Division 1 Water Polo Orange Lutheran (20-10) won the Division 1 CIF Water Polo title over Foothill (19-9), 11-7. It was Foothill’s second loss to Or- ange Lutheran this season. Orange Lutheran jumped out to a 2-0 lead on goals by Jona- than Carcarey and Wade Sher- lock. Foothill responded with two goals by Bronson Birdsall and William Griswold to tie the score, with 1:49 remaining. Carcarey scored with :28 remaining in the first quarter to take a 3-2 lead. After two Foothill goals by Carson Hoyt and Griswold, the score was tied, 4-4, to end the half. Orange Lutheran penetrated Foothill’s defense, scoring three straight goals. Foothill cut the lead to 7-6, as Griswold and Bro- dy Metz found the net. Foothill found it difficult to crack the Lancers’ defense, as they blocked six shots and, on turnovers, widened the lead to 11-7 for the final. Both fourth-ranked Foothill and third-ranked Orange Lu- theran advanced to the California State Water Polo Championships where their respective seasons came to an end. Foothill lost to Newport Harbor, 18-9; and Or- ange Lutheran lost to Harvard Westlake, 16-9.
