Page 15 Foothills Sentry December 2022 COMMUNITY SPORTS BY CLIFF ROBBINS AND CHAD CLINE Santiago Canyon Womens Soccer capture OEC League Santiago Canyon womens soc- cer (17-1-2, 12-0-2) captured the Orange Empire League title and earned the number two seed in the CCCAA state playoffs. Santiago Canyon played Ventura College in the first round. SCC leads the conference in goals with 66, shot percentage .458, and 12 conference shutouts. SCC is led by Nikki Marino, with 16 goals, and Alyssa Rubio with 10 goals. Xzavier Guess, El Modena quarterback, turns the corner against Pasadena defenders. El Modena won the CIF playoff game, 15-4. Owen Smith from El Modena knocks the Pasadena receiver out of bounds. Jon Alverez, goalkeeper from El Modena High, blocks a shot in the CIF Water Polo playoffs. El Modena lost to Don Lugo, 9-5, ending its season. Orange High quarterback Hype Grand (1) follows the block of Ardwon Morris. Orange ad- vanced to the semifinal game against Loyola High School. SCC Mens Basketball season outlook After having lost the first game of the season, SCC turned around and won four straight games, including its home opener against Southwestern, 83-71. Looking to start for the Hawks is freshman Damien Parker, a 6’0’ guard from Villa Park. Parker is among the leading scorers pre- season, posting a 9.3 ppg. Sopho- more Aaron Wadman (22.0 ppg), Zach Ibbetson (13.3 ppg), fresh- man Kai Smith (12.5 ppg), and Harrison Wiese (9.0 ppg) lead the team in scoring. SCC entered this season ranked fourth in Southern California. Head coach Todd Dixon welcomed back four sophomores and three redshirts. Sophomore Garrett Andre, a 6’10” center from Villa Park, will add depth to the team. Mea culpa: Canyon’s Harry Welch was in- ducted into the CIFSS Hall of Fame.
