PRESERVING THE LEGACY OF GIVING IN THE COACHELLA VALLEY As the Palm Springs Public Library’s 50-year-old building is transformed, it’s not only the concrete foundation that is supporting what comes next. The Palm Springs Public Library Foundation (PSPLF) is working to build a stronger future for the city’s library. PSPLF is deep into its most ambitious effort to date, actively fundraising for A New Chapter: Revitalizing Our Palm Springs Public Library, a $7 million Capital Campaign. Founded in 2014, the nonprofit’s 27-member volunteer Board recognized a pivotal opportunity to solidify the Foundation’s role as the Library’s philanthropic and advocacy partner by expanding community engagement and attracting new private donors. Capital Campaign funds raised by the Foundation will go beyond core infrastructure to enhance facilities— including a teen workshop, flexible community rooms, additional patios and outdoor spaces—expand technology, and establish an endowment for the Library’s long-term sustainability. Recently elected Board President Jim Gray and Executive Director Peter Pearson work with a board of directors composed of leaders from diverse fields, including libraries, writing, the arts, technology, healthcare and fundraising. In close collaboration with Director of Library Services Jeannie Kays, board members advance fundraising, advocacy, communications and more through an active committee structure. PSPLF works in tandem with the City of Palm Springs, which funds the Library’s operating budget; the fivemember Palm Springs Public Library Board of Trustees, which provides policy direction and fiscal oversight, oversees long-term planning and manages the Library Trust Fund; and Friends of the Palm Springs Library, a volunteer-driven nonprofit supporting Library programs and activities through memberships, used book sales and special events. At the forefront of the Library’s next chapter, the Foundation has established itself as a driving force— strengthening philanthropic investment and public awareness to ensure the Palm Springs Public Library can evolve, innovate and serve the community for generations.
